LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP FATHER CHARGED AFTER TODDLER’S FENTANYL OVERDOSE
A Loyalsock Township man is facing felony charges after state police say his two-year-old son suffered an accidental fentanyl overdose earlier this year. Twenty-seven-year-old Dylon Reighard is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment. Police say the child was exposed to fentanyl while Reighard was staying at a home in Eldred Township in March. The child was hospitalized and recovered. Reighard waived his preliminary hearing and is free on 15-thousand dollars bail.
STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE BURGLARY AT LOCK HAVEN GRANDVIEW HOTEL
State Police are investigating a burglary at the Lock Haven Grandview Hotel in Bald Eagle Township. Troopers say someone kicked open a door and entered a utility room, stealing two televisions, a laptop, an all-in-one printer, two saws and two Roku devices. LEWISBURG TO DOUBLE NON-RESIDENT PARKING PERMIT FEES
Lewisburg is raising monthly permit fees for borough-owned parking lots starting January first. Borough Council has directed its solicitor to prepare a resolution increasing the monthly fee from 50 dollars to 100 dollars per space for non-residents. Full-time Lewisburg residents and employees of borough businesses will receive a 50-percent discount, keeping their monthly cost at 50 dollars. The new rates are scheduled to take effect in 2027.
GAME COMMISSION OFFICIAL TO SPEAK AT WILLIAMSPORT TROUT UNLIMITED MEETING
The Susquehanna Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host Pennsylvania Game Commission deputy executive director Dave Gustafson for a public meeting in Williamsport. Topics include changes affecting Game Commission law enforcement, natural gas development on state game lands, local deer herds and Pennsylvania’s elk range. WILLIAMSPORT MAN CONVICTED OF CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT
A Williamsport man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a child more than a decade ago. A Lycoming County jury found 50-year-old Joshua Carter Turner guilty on multiple charges, including statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and unlawful contact with a minor. Prosecutors say the abuse involved a 12-year-old beginning in 2012. Turner’s bail was revoked after the verdict, and he was taken to the Lycoming County Prison. Sentencing is scheduled for November 30th.
FEDERAL COURT SETS NEW STANDARD FOR POLICE STRIP SEARCHES
A Williamsport civil rights case has led to a new federal appeals court ruling on police strip searches. The Third Circuit says officers generally need a warrant backed by probable cause before conducting a strip search outside a jail or prison, unless there is consent or an emergency. The case involved Kyle Beatty, who was strip-searched in 2021 after two earlier searches found no drugs or weapons. Beatty was never charged, while the officers were protected from liability by qualified immunity.
RESTORED FIRE TOWER GOES ON DISPLAY AT PENNSYLVANIA LUMBER MUSEUM
A restored piece of Pennsylvania forest history is now on display at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum in Ulysses. The Lumber Heritage Region and Pennsylvania Lumber Museum Association restored a reclaimed fire tower with help from museum staff and volunteers. Fire towers were once used to spot smoke and potential wildfires. The tower is not open for general public climbing. More information is available at LumberHeritage.org.
FIRST LYCOMING COUNTY HONOR FLIGHT PLANNED FOR OCTOBER
A first-of-its-kind Honor Flight trip from Lycoming County will take Korean and Vietnam War veterans to Washington, D.C. next month. The Blue Star Mothers of North Central Pennsylvania and Honor Flights Philadelphia are organizing the October 10th trip, which will include visits to war memorials and Arlington National Cemetery.
