BARN FIRE IN UPPER FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP
A barn fire drew firefighters from across the region to Upper Fairfield Township after flames tore through an 80-by-100-foot structure along Reeder Road, forcing crews to rely on the family’s pond that has long served as a water source during major fires. According to the Sun-Gazette, the blaze was reported Wednesday around 6:15 a.m. when neighbors noticed an orange glow and called for help. The fire spread rapidly through the barn, but all 12 cows were safely removed before crews battled the flames in brutal cold. Firefighters broke through ice on the pond to draft water and dealt with collapsing sections before bringing the fire under control within about an hour. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains undetermined because of the extensive damage.
