TRUCK ACCIDENT IN SHAMOKIN DAM SHUTS DOWN ROUTE 15 NORTH
A tractor-trailer crash shut down both northbound lanes of Route 15 at the Route 11 split in Shamokin Dam Tuesday afternoon. PennDOT says Route 15 was closed between Route 11 and Victor Lane near Skeeter’s BBQ starting around 3:37 p.m. A detour sent drivers onto Routes 11, 405, and 147. The roadway reopened just before nine o’clock Tuesday night. No injuries or further details were released.
MUNCY TOWNSHIP FACING LEGAL ACTION
A legal battle remains unresolved in Muncy Township. According to the Sun Gazette, township Supervisor and board chair Terri Lauchle has filed a civil action against former supervisors and the township, seeking to halt what she calls unlawful and nontransparent actions by the outgoing board. Lauchle alleges development decisions tied to the former Lycoming Mall site were improperly advanced, public meetings were bypassed, and township funds were committed without approval. She says those actions could leave the current board bound by decisions it cannot undo.
STATE FUNDING FOR LYCOMUING AND UNION COUNTIES
State Senator Gene Yaw and State Representative Jamie Flick announced more than two-point-four million dollars in state funding for projects in Lycoming and Union counties, approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The money will support transportation improvements and water and sewer upgrades, including a major extension of the Susquehanna River Walk, new safety bollards on Williamsport’s Fourth Street, sewer regionalization and expansion projects, and advanced water metering infrastructure. In Union County, White Deer Township will receive funding to replace the New Columbia pump station, improving reliability and public safety for residents and businesses.
PA FARM SHOW CROWD SHOWED UP WUITH AN APPETITE
The 2026 Pennsylvania Farm Show wrapped up Saturday after eight days of celebrating agriculture with big crowds and appetites. An estimated 500,000 visitors packed the Farm Show Complex, where they consumed more than 20-thousand gallons of milkshakes, ate tens of thousands of pounds of pork, beef, potatoes, mushrooms, and fries, and watched 18 calves be born in the Calving Corner. Organizers say the turnout and food totals show Pennsylvania agriculture isn’t just thriving, it’s feeding the state’s economy and its people.
WANTED MAN APPREHENDED AT MINI MART, SENTENCED
A Williamsport man who fled from authorities and was later caught at a Dandy Mini Mart has been sentenced to state prison. Stephen Bertram Gordon the Third, 33, received six months to five years for flight to avoid apprehension and resisting arrest. State police say Trooper Luke Geiger recognized Gordon while he was wanted on a U.S. Marshals warrant for a parole violation. Authorities say Gordon resisted arrest, and his sentence will run consecutive to his federal prison term and any parole violation penalties.
SCI MUNCY FACING CIVIL SUIT OVER INMATE DEATH
The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections and the superintendent of the State Correctional Institution at Muncy are facing a federal civil lawsuit over the death of a Schuylkill County inmate. The estate of 25-year-old Ashley Virginia Hernandez of Pottsville claims prison officials ignored her mental health needs before she took her own life in April 2024. The suit alleges Hernandez, who had a documented history of mental illness, was placed alone in the general population without proper monitoring despite warnings. The wrongful death and negligence lawsuit names prison leadership and staff and seeks unspecified damages.
BOARD OF PARDONS NOMINEE APPOINTED BY SHAPIURO
Governor Shapiro has nominated psychiatrist and attorney John S. O’Brien II to fill a vacancy on Pennsylvania’s Board of Pardons. O’Brien is a longtime expert witness in major criminal cases, drawing praise for his mental health expertise but concern from clemency advocates over past testimony, especially involving juveniles. Two state Senate committees will review the nomination later this month, and if lawmakers do not act within 25 session days, O’Brien would take the seat automatically.
CVS AWARDS GRANT TO CSO FOR MOBILE FOOD PANTRY
Central Susquehanna Opportunities is expanding its fight against food insecurity with help from a new grant. CSO has received ten-thousand dollars from CVS Health to support mobile food distributions across Central Pennsylvania. The funding will help bring nutritious food directly to families facing transportation and access barriers in Columbia, Montour, and Northumberland counties. CSO officials say the partnership strengthens community health and helps ensure more neighbors have reliable access to food.
