MAN ARRESTED FOR TRYING TO SELL A GUN ON FACEBOOK

A man who tried to sell a gun through Facebook messages was arrested for second-degree felony firearms not to be carried without a license after an informant called police about the transaction.  According to North Central PA dot com, 32 year old John Stephen Epps was waiting along the 500 block of Pine Street with a 9mm Ruger SR9c, two magazines and bullets in a backpack when he was stopped by police and is no being held in Lycoming County prison in lie of 35 thousand dollars bail.  Court record say Epps is a convicted felon from Texas who is prohibited to carry a weapon.

GUNSHOTS BEING INVESTIGATED IN SUNBURY

Several gunshots were heard in Sunbury Sunday night and police are looking for input from the public if they know anything about it.  According to the Daily Item, if residents around the area of North 8th Street and Memorial Acres heard anything suspicious around 9:30pm Sunday night, contact Northumberland County 911. Members of the community with door cameras or any other surveillance are also asked to check them for suspicious activity. The Sunbury police say they are on patrol and actively investigating the 4 to 8 reported gun shots.

WATER MAIN BREAK IN MONTGOMERY

A water main break in Montgomery is causing the water authority there to issue  a boil water advisory until further notice.  According to the Sun Gazette, the Montgomery Water Authority said there was a loss of positive pressure after the break near Brouse Road and Route 405.  Water used for any purpose to ingest should be boiled for a full minute and cooled before using, or use bottled water for teeth brushing, making ice and other uses.  If residents experience negative symptoms like nausea, cramps or headaches after drinking untreated water, they should get medical advice.   The EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline is 1-800-426-4791.

FALL FEST AT LITTLE PINE STATE PARK SUNDAY

The  Annual Fall Festival at Little Pine State Park is this Sunday, October 15th from noon until 4pm. Little Pine State Park is at 4205 Little Pine Creek Road in Waterville and the festival will feature the natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities in north-central Pennsylvania, including live animals, crafts, demonstrations, and more. The event is in the parking lot of the main day use area at the park and is free to attend.  The festival may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather.  Get details at dcnr.state.pa.us

NEW YORK WOMAN STRUCK ON I-80 BY HIT & RUN SUV

A woman from Beacon, New York driving on I-80 in Turbot Township was sideswiped yesterday by another car that fled the scene and State Police are investigating.  According to North Central PA a black SUV was traveling east in the left lane on 80 around mile marker 215 before it drifted into the lane where 20 year old Olivia Johnson was driving her 2019 Subaru Impreza.  Johnson’s vehicle suffered disabling damage at the scene of the wreck.  The black SUV continued east on I-80.  If you have information call State Police. 

MAN ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF CHILD PRONOGRAPHY

A 39 year old Hughesville man is in custody after state investigators conducted a raid of his home last Thursday and discovered dozens of images of child pornography on his cell phone and tablet.  According to the Sun Gazette, Douglas Samuel Seitzer, Jr. was arraigned on 40 felony counts of possession of child pornography and admitted to police that he sent and accepted inappropriate pictures of children and took pictures of children in public without them or their parents knowing so he could upload them to a pornographic website.  Seitzer is in Lycoming County Prison in lieu of 100 thousand dollars bail.

MAN ON THE RUN IN SHAMOKIN CAUGHT BY POLICE

A 24 year old man from Shamokin charged with firearms and sex crimes, who has been on the run since September 3rd has been captured by Shamokin police.  Accordin got the Daily Item, Kyle Lytle was found by police near Raspberry Hill Sunday just before midnight and was apprehended without incident.  Police said they recovered a loaded AK-47 rifle.  Lytle had been eluding police over an ATV pursuit before h e fled on foot early last month and allegedly kept hidden by some people who have been charged with harboring the suspect.  He faces an arraignment in Shamokin District Court at a future date.

200K GRANT AWARDED TO LOCAL UINIVERSITIES

200 thousand dollars has been awarded in a grant to Susquehanna University from the National Science Foundation.  According to the University  the funds will go to undergraduate research and training and to support the purchase of an instrument that renders accurate and precise measurements of the full three-dimensional structure of a molecule.  The device will be kept at Susquehanna, but is also available to aid research efforts at Bucknell University, which is a partner on the grant, as well as Elizabethtown and Lycoming colleges, and Wilkes University.
