DR OZ VISITS LOCAL EVENTS IN WILLIAMSPORT AND LOCK HAVEN

PA GOP US Senatorial candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz was an event at Williamsport’s Genetti Hotel yesterday afternoon for a meet and greet hosted by the Lycoming County Patriots.  Later, Oz spoke to About 300 hundred people at the Clinton County Republican headquarters in the former Walker Hardware location in Lock Haven. According to the Record Online, Dr. Oz spoke for about 20 minutes mostly criticizing John Fetterman, his Democratic opponent in the November election.  Oz posed for pictures and answered questions before leaving. Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-76) was also a speaker along with Raelene Decker, North Central Regional Director for the party’s gubernatorial candidate, state Sen. Doug Mastriano.

WASD MATH TEACHER CASE HELD FOR COURT

The combined sexual assault cases of the Williamsport Area School District math teacher have been held for court after District Judge Christian Frey heard evidence from one female victim yesterday.  According to the Sun Gazette, Christopher Yoder is free on bail following preliminary hearings on two criminal cases involving in several charges of appropriate sexual assault, corrupting the morals of a minor and more.  Another preliminary hearing for charges in yet another case was held over for another date.  Yoder is now awaiting trial in Lycoming County Court.

ARREST IN PELLET GUN SHOOTING IN CITY

Two Williamsport men have been arrested after they were connected to a pellet gun shooting last June 14th.  According to the Sun Gazette,  23 year old Giovanni Davis and 23 year old Brian Duvall Jr  were accused of firing a pellet gun at a man walking along Elmira Street in the city after witnesses submitted vehicle registration records top police.  Survellence video also surfaced of the incident and it shows Duvall driving the 2019 Jeep Cherokee that was the suspect vehicle and Davis leaning out of the window shooting the gun.  The victim was shot in the neck and no word on the extent of his injuries. The two men are free on bail after being charged; Davis was charged with reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and harassment, while Duvall was charged with conspiracy and driving with a suspended license.

NEW TROOPERS HEAD TO NEPA AFTER GRADUATION

Eight new graduates from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy are headed to our area to serve as State Troopers in Milton, Montoursville and Towanda after the announcement of 64 cadets who completed the training at the academy in Hershey, PA.  According to North Central Pa dot com, Colonel Robert Evanchick encouraged graduates to be true to themselves and follow their Code of Honor at the ceremony last Friday.  It was the 164th class to graduate from the academy since 1960.  The troopers report to their new positions next week.

FATAL ACCIDENT IN BEAVERTOWN

A man from Middleburg died yesterday afternoon in Beavertown after crashing into a building.  According to the Daily Item, the 56 year old man who’s identity has not yet been released, crashed at 503 West Mulberry Alley into a structure owned by Stone Construction just before 2pm Tuesday, causing severe damage, according to police. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy will be done to determine the nature of death.  Beavertown Rescue Hose Company and Evangelical Paramedics responded along with beaver Springs and Middleburg Fire Departments.

SERIOUS ACCIDENT HOSPITALIZES PORT TREVORTON MAN

Port Trevorton police have released information about a serious accident that happened August 23rd  in Penn Township.  According to the Sun Gazette, 29 year old Christopher Delawder of Port Trevorton, rolled his vehicle twice after losing control on a left hand curve along Wedgewood Drive after 10pm last Tuesday.  Police say Delawder was wearing a seatbelt when his flipping vehicle went through three neighborhood yards before coming to a stop.   He was transported to Geisinger Medical Center with suspected serious injuries, but no word on his progress this week.  He will be charged with a traffic violation after troopers complete the investigation.

MONEY IN BUDGET TO UPGRADE LOBBYING WEBSITE IN PA

In an effort to have the proper information about how Pennsylvania lobbyists are hired and how the money they receive is used, there has been a 150%  boost in the budget for Lobbying Disclosure for fiscal year July 1st 2022.  According to the Sun Gazette, money from the general fund, and fees from lobbying firms will provide an upgrade to the IT technology that will help manage lobbying records in a more intuitive and user-friendly way.  In a 2019 report by the Pennsylvania’s Oversight committee, they said it was easy to under report expenditures and difficult to ensure compliance.

UPSET SALE COMING TO NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY

An upset sale is coming next month in Northumberland County, a sale held for properties that are tax delinquent, which contains more than 280 properties listed from Shamokin, Mount Carmel and Coal Township. According to the Daily Item, the Northumberland County Tax Claims Bureau says the sale will be held at the administration center, 399 Stadium Drive, Sunbury, at 10 a.m. Sept. 22.  The properties not sold on Sept. 22 will move on to the judicial sale next summer. A property reaches judicial sale when the owner has been delinquent on taxes for two years and already has been through an upset sale with no buyers.

The Philadelphia Eagles released starting safety Anthony Harris and replaced him by trading for Saints defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson who played a hybrid linebacker slot corner role with the Saints. The Eagles face the Lions in Detroit on September 11 for the first game of the regular season.
