The shooting near the Liberty Exxon, in Tioga County has now resulted with the death of the victim. Jesus Iran Alicia-Santiago,31, of Buffalo, New York, succumbed to his injuries; after being shot on Friday afternoon. Alicia-Santiago drove himself to the convenience store to get help. According to State Police in Mansfield, the shooting happened at the intersection of Route 414 and US 15, near the Park and Ride. The victim was driving a Black Ford Explorer, while the alleged suspect was driving a Red sedan. Police believe the incident was an isolated event. The investigation into the deadly shooting is still ongoing, and state police are asking for the public’s help, if you have information on the incident, you are asked to contact PSP-Mansfield at (570)662-2151.

A high speed chase in Shamokin Dam has landed a man in jail, after allegedly being under the influence. Lucas E. Schlief, 22, of Sunbury, who apparently also had a suspended license at the time,led police through the Colonial Village Plaza and through the parking lot of McDonald’s, before escaping on foot. Schlief was charged with a felony of attempting to flee or elude an officer, misdemeanors of resisting arrest, DUI, and various traffic summaries. He was arraigned by District Judge Bo Trawitz and placed in the Snyder County Prison in lieu of $30,000 monetary bail. 

Medical malpractice lawsuits could be on the rise, after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court reversed a twenty year old rule, that malpractice suits can be filed in the county in which the injustice occurred. The reversal by the state’s high court, could mean an increase in cases in the state’s largest cities, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh; where juries could be more sympathetic on awarding large amounts of compensation to victims.

One high school football team has cancelled its season, while two others are cooperating with an investigation of hazing and bullying, within its programs. Middletown Area School District, near Harrisburg, has cancelled its season due to the allegations. Meanwhile, Mohawk High School and Athens, are in an investigation of alleged incidents. In regards to Athens, the alleged hazing occurred in mid-July at a football camp at Bloomsburg University and continued up until preseason workouts at the local school. No further word has been given on whether any charges will be filed.

An employee at the Wise Snack Food facility in Berwick, has been charged with stealing two cellphones from his fellow co-workers in a lunchroom. Ramon Tejeda Pinales, 49, of Hazleton, is now facing the theft charges, after video surveillance captured Pinales swiping the phones in two separate incidents over a five day period.

An Avis, Clinton County man, was sentenced in Clinton County Court, for assaulting various women, was convicted of indecent assault and harassment. Eric Montague King, 46, formerly of Lafayette Street, was sentenced to a maximum of seven years and six months — with a minimum of three years and nine months — for the assaults that took place in 2020. King will also serve a mandatory three years on probation and be classified as a sexually-violent predator for the remainder of his life.

Motorists in Bloomsburg have experienced headaches with the reconstruction of the Route 11 and Route 487 project. Construction continues this week, with the roadwork improvement project working near the intersection of Sixth Street and Columbia Boulevard and East Street and will continue to East Main Street. Work on this project includes removal and reconstruction of the existing roadway, replacement of curb, sidewalk, overhead street lighting, parking meters and drainage features. New traffic signals will be installed at the Fifth Street intersection.

Easton Oliverson, the player who fell off of his bunk bed at the Little League World Series earlier; went through surgery on Friday, at the Janet Weis Childrens Hospital at Geisinger, and came away with success. The surgery was to replace his skull cap. According to officials, the procedure was done much sooner than what was expected, for this type of injury. Oliverson was a member of the Snow Canyon, Utah Little League team, that represented the Mountain Division, at the World Series. The team lost both of its games, to be eliminated from the series.

Little League World Series…

The team from Honolulu, Hawaii will play the team from Curacao, this afternoon at 3pm; to determine the World Champion at the 75th Little League World Series in South Williamsport. Honolulu defeated the team from Nolensville, Tennessee, 5-1. Hawaii has outscored its opponents, 47-2 during the series. Curacao defeated Chinese Taipei, 1-0 to win the right to play this afternoon. Hawaii will try for its fourth title, winning it all in 2005, 2008 and 2018. Curacao won the title in 2004, but, lost to Louisiana in 2019, in the championship.
