MUNCY TOWNSHIP CHAIR RECUSES HERSELF FROM BASS PRO PROJECT
Muncy Township Supervisor Chair Terri Lauchle has recused herself from all matters involving FAMvest and the proposed Bass Pro Shop project at the former Lycoming Mall property. According to the Sun Gazette, Lauchle announced the decision during this week’s supervisors meeting, saying she wanted to avoid distractions and negative publicity after FAMvest filed a lawsuit seeking her recusal. The company has alleged bias and delays in the township’s handling of the project. After Lauchle stepped aside, supervisors approved the Bass Pro land development plans with conditions.
WILLIAMSPORT COUNCIL DELAYS CITY HALL SALE VOTE AGAIN
Williamsport City Council has again delayed action on a proposal to seek bids for the sale of City Hall. Council voted 4-to-3 Thursday night to table the resolution, with members saying they want to revisit the issue at the next meeting, according to the Sun Gazette. The historic building on West Fourth Street has been closed since 2021, after water damage, mold and a later pipe burst forced city workers into other offices. Officials say the city spends about 50-thousand dollars a year to heat and maintain the building.
LOCK HAVEN FIREFIGHTER HONORED FOR MARYLAND WATER RESCUE
A Lock Haven firefighter is being honored for helping rescue four people from a rip current in Maryland. Flash and Sirens of Clinton County recognized Citizens Hose Number 5 firefighter Brock Brungard with its Community Response Award. Officials say Brungard was off duty near Assateague Island June 30th when four people, including two young children, were caught in dangerous water. He entered the water and helped bring them to safety. Brungard is the second person to receive the award since it was started.
LYCOMING COUNTY FAIR CONTINUES WITH RODEO AND DERBIES
The Lycoming County Fair continues in Hughesville, with a full weekend of rides, livestock shows and grandstand events. Today, the fair opens at 4 p.m., rides start at 5, and the Bulls and Barrels rodeo begins at 6:30. Saturday, gates open at 10 a.m., with an antique tractor pull, sheep show, obstacle trail challenge and the Tommy Hedrick Memorial Demolition Derby. SUNBURY COUPLE CHARGED AFTER BABY, PETS FOUND IN FILTHY HOME
A Sunbury couple is facing charges after police say a probation check uncovered filthy conditions inside a home where a baby and 13 pets were living. Police say 37-year-old Justin Porter and 36-year-old Alexis Houser were charged after officers went to the Edison Avenue home July 2nd. Investigators say the home smelled of urine and that Children and Youth Services placed the infant with a family friend, and code enforcement condemned the home. Both face child endangerment and animal cruelty charges.
BUFFALO VALLEY POLICE APPROVE PURCHASE OF NEW TASERS
Buffalo Valley Regional Police are getting 15 new Tasers. The regional police commission approved the purchase Wednesday night at a cost of nearly 45-thousand dollars. According to the Daily Item, Chief Dan Embeck says the new Taser 7 models will replace older Axon units that are about 10 years old and no longer supported. The purchase includes parts, training, batteries, service and a five-year warranty. The commission also plans a smaller National Night Out event August 4th at the Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority pool.
LYCOMING COLLEGE PRESIDENT ELECTED TO STATEWIDE BOARD
Lycoming College President Charles “Chip” Edmonds has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania. His term began July 1st. AICUP represents more than 80 independent nonprofit colleges and universities across the state. Edmonds is one of nine higher education leaders newly elected to statewide board roles this year. He succeeds former Lycoming President Kent Trachte in the position. Edmonds, a 1998 Lycoming graduate, became the college’s president in July 2025.
FLOATING CLASSROOM SERIES UNDERWAY ON THE HIAWATHA
The Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association’s Floating Classroom series is underway aboard the Hiawatha Paddleboat in Williamsport. The next cruise is Tuesday, July 14th, focusing on plastics in the Susquehanna River. Organizers say the program will look at emerging contaminants, with participants building microplastic testing devices from household materials.
