PENNDOT SAYS ROAD CONSTRUCTION SEASON STARTING UP
PennDOT says a busy construction season is getting underway across north central Pennsylvania, with more than 100 projects planned and dozens more continuing this year. Officials estimate over 230 million dollars will be invested across nine counties, including several major projects in Lycoming County. Those include bridge restorations, resurfacing work, and improvements along Interstate 180 near Williamsport. PennDOT says the upgrades are aimed at improving safety, strengthening infrastructure, and supporting long-term economic growth throughout the region.
LYCO CREEK CLEANUP THIS WEEK
Volunteers are invited to help clean up Lycoming Creek this weekend. The Susquehanna Chapter of Trout Unlimited is hosting a stream cleanup Saturday, April 18, starting at 9 a.m. at the Trout Run Park Pavilion, just south of Trout Run. Trash bags and rubber gloves will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own work gloves. After the cleanup, volunteers can enjoy a free grilled hotdog lunch. Organizers say the event is a great way to give back to the community and help protect local waterways.
AMISH WOMAN CRITICALLY HURT WHEN CAR HITS BUGGY
A young woman is critically injured after a horse and buggy crash in Lycoming County. It happened just before midnight Sunday on Middle Road in Limestone Township. Fire officials say a Subaru rear-ended the buggy, ejecting both riders. The woman was knocked unconscious, taken to Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital and later flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. A man in the buggy was taken to UPMC Williamsport. The driver of the Subaru was treated at the scene, and the horse was not hurt. State police are investigating.
MAN ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS
A Williamsport man is facing charges after police say a series of disturbances unfolded within hours on Second Avenue. Officers responding to assist fire crews say 37-year-old David Burkhart was intoxicated, yelling, and refused orders to put out a small backyard fire. According to court documents, he later showed up at police headquarters drinking alcohol on the steps, then returned home where he allegedly caused more damage, breaking windows and shouting. Burkhart is now charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness and is being held on 3-thousand dollars bail.
SETTLE OUTSTANDING WARRANTS IN NORRY, SUNBURY
Police in Sunbury and Northumberland are giving residents a limited window to take care of outstanding warrants. Officials say a 10-day amnesty period runs April 14th through the 24th, allowing people to turn themselves in, pay fines, or resolve issues without immediate arrest. District Attorney Michael O’Donnell says after that deadline, targeted enforcement will begin. Last year’s sweep brought in more than 32-thousand dollars in Sunbury alone. Authorities warn that once the grace period ends, those with active warrants could face additional fines or even jail time.
VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS DONATES FUNDS FOR DYING TREES
Brandon Park in Williamsport is getting a boost to help replace dying trees. City Council has accepted a one-thousand dollar donation from the Victorian Christmas Committee to support the effort. The group raised the money through its popular Tour of Homes event, which draws visitors from across the region each year. Committee members say the donation reflects their mission to give back and help preserve local landmarks. Officials say the funding will help maintain the park’s trees, gardens and green space for future generations.
