CONTENTIONS HIGH AT MUNCY TWP MEETING OVER BASS PRO PLAN
Tensions are growing in Muncy Township over a proposed Bass Pro Shops development and meeting procedures. According to the Sun Gazette, at a contentious supervisors meeting, attorneys warned the board it could face legal trouble for removing public comment on agenda items, a move critics say may violate the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act. Supervisors have not yet signed subdivision plans tied to the Bass Pro project at the former Lycoming Mall site. The township engineer says the plan should be classified as a subdivision, not a minor subdivision. The developer’s attorney warned that if signatures aren’t secured soon, the issue could be taken to court for a judge’s decision.
FORMER COACH AWARDED DAMAGES FOR LOSING EYE
A federal jury has awarded nearly three hundred thousand dollars to a former Montoursville baseball coach who lost an eye during batting practice. Fifty-two-year-old Corey Twigg was struck by a batted ball in 2018. Jurors found the protective L-screen net behind him was defective when it left the manufacturer and distributor. The jury awarded damages for medical costs, lost wages and pain and suffering. Twigg and his wife are now asking a judge to increase the award or order a new trial

MIFFLINBURG TO OPEN BIDS FOR ATHLETIC COMPLEX
The Mifflinburg Area School District is moving forward with the next step in its Wildcat Athletic Complex project. School officials say bids for a new stadium entry building will be opened April 9 during a public work session of the school board. The building is expected to include ticket offices, concessions and restrooms. A mandatory pre-bid meeting has already been held, and groundbreaking is tentatively scheduled for May. The board is expected to award the project bids at its April 14 meeting.
LAW CLERK ARRESTED FOR POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
A former judicial law clerk in the Union County and Snyder County court system is facing multiple felony charges. State police say 67-year-old Keith Edward Kendall of Lewisburg is charged with 10 counts of possessing child sexual abuse material and one count of criminal use of a communication facility. Investigators say the case began after a report from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children about illegal image uploads tied to Kendall’s IP address. According to the Daily Item, Kendall is no longer employed with the court.
SNYDER COUNTY INMATE DIES BY SUICIDE
A state police investigation has ruled the death of a Snyder County inmate at the Clinton County Correctional Facility a suicide. Officials say 46-year-old Matthew J. Furr of Sunbury died by hanging on November 17 while being held on retail theft charges. Snyder County inmates have been housed at the Clinton County jail since the county closed its own facility in 2024 to cut costs. Furr is the second Snyder County inmate to die there in less than nine months. During a prison board meeting, officials said they will begin making weekly inquiries into the well-being of Snyder County inmates housed at the facility.
NARCAN MAY BE PROVIDED IN NEWSPAPER STYLE BOXES
A regional effort is underway to make a life-saving overdose medication easier to access across central Pennsylvania. CMSU Behavioral Health and Developmental Services is installing naloxone newsstands in Snyder, Union, Northumberland, Montour, and Columbia counties. The stands — which look like newspaper boxes — provide free Narcan along with information on recognizing and responding to an overdose. Officials say four counties already have stands in place, and Union County leaders are considering adding one at the courthouse in Lewisburg.
SOJOURNER TRUTH TO GET UPGRADED HEATING, COOLING SYSTEM
A Williamsport ministry that helps people in need will soon see improvements to its heating and cooling systems. City Council has approved using Community Development Block Grant funds to upgrade electrical systems at Sojourner Truth Ministries on High Street. According to the Sun Gazette, the outdated electrical infrastructure has made it difficult to properly heat the building in winter and cool it in summer. Hunt Engineers, Architects and Surveyors will handle the design work, with more project details expected as planning continues.
