TWO SNYDER COUNTY RESIDENTS ARRESTED FOR DEALING NARCOTICS
Two Snyder County residents are facing multiple felony drug charges after a state grand jury indictment. According to North Central PA dot com, prosecutors say Joseph Kern of Beaver Springs and Jodi Garrison of Beavertown ran a long-term drug operation involving methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, and other narcotics, often trading drugs for labor or goods. Investigators say multiple witnesses described buying drugs or performing work in exchange for them. Both remain jailed in Snyder County Prison and are scheduled for preliminary hearings today.
DEFENDENTS IN COURT OVER MINK FARM RELEASE
A high-profile animal release case returns to a Northumberland County courtroom today as two out-of-state defendants appear for a pre-trial hearing. Prosecutors accuse Christopher Legere and Cara Mitrano of releasing 683 mink from the Richard H. Stahl and Sons Fur Farm in 2024, a move that farm owners say caused more than 164-thousand dollars in losses. While a judge has dismissed one eco-terrorism charge and several misdemeanors, both defendants remain free on bail as the case continues.
ONE ADVERSE OPINION FOR CITY AUDIT
The City of Williamsport has received a largely clean audit for 2024, though issues remain tied to missing records from the Williamsport Parking Authority. According to the Sun gazette, independent auditors reported no major misstatements in city operations, but issued an adverse opinion because the parking authority was not included in the financials. City leaders say the report reflects progress under Derek Slaughter as the city works toward financial stability and prepares for future borrowing needs.
SHAPIRO OUTLINES BUDGET PROPOSAL
Governor Josh Shapiro has unveiled his 2026–27 state budget proposal, a 53.2-billion-dollar plan he says is balanced, raises no taxes, and delivers long-term stability. Speaking to the General Assembly, Shapiro renewed his push to raise Pennsylvania’s minimum wage, fund more police officers, expand violence-prevention programs, and invest in agriculture and workforce development. The proposal also includes plans to regulate skill games and legalize adult-use cannabis, moves Shapiro says could generate hundreds of millions in new revenue for the state.
