TRUCK CRASHES INTO MONTOURSVILLE BUSINESS
A Montoursville business had to close last Thursday after man lost control of his pickup truck and plowed into it around 5pm. According to the Sun Gazette, Montour Beverage on Broad Street in Montoursville sustained serious damage from the crash. Borough police say the driver suffered minor injuries but declined treatment. No one inside the store was hurt, but just an hour earlier, state police were also called to Route 405 in Muncy Creek Township, where a motorcyclist was injured in a separate crash. Both accidents remain under investigation.
FELONY THEFT CHARGES FOR REPEAT SHOPLIFTER
A 48-year-old McClure man with a history of theft convictions is facing felony charges after another alleged shoplifting incident. According to North Central PA dot com, state police in Selinsgrove say Adam Matthew Hosler was caught on surveillance video at the Dollar General in Spring Township on September 4th. Troopers say the video shows Hosler committing the thefts who later admitted to the crime when confronted by police. With three prior convictions, Hosler is now charged with felony retail theft..
NEW DEAL INCLUDES ROYALTY PAYMENTS FROM ENERGY COMPANY
The Lycoming County Commissioners say the county has closed a $5.4 million deal with Range Resources–Appalachia. According to North Central PA dot com, the September 11th transaction involves the sale of over 13-hundred acres of subsurface rights in Jackson Township, along with a royalty agreement, meaning the county will receive regular payments from oil, gas, and other hydrocarbons produced on the property. Commissioners say the money and royalties will directly benefit taxpayers, providing both immediate revenue and long-term income. The agreement follows more than a year of negotiations and includes protections against future litigation risk.
ICONIC STATUE INSTALLED DURING MILTON HARVEST FESTIVAL
Chef Boyardee has returned home to Milton in the form of a 7-foot-tall bronze statue. According to the Daily Item, the statue of Hector Boiardi was unveiled Saturday morning at the town’s annual Harvest Festival. Hometown Food Company, the new owner of the Chef Boyardee brand, gifted the statue to Milton as a tribute to its role in the brand’s history. Once located at a facility in Omaha, the statue now stands at the corner of Arch and Mahoning streets as a permanent reminder of the community’s connection to the iconic pasta brand.
YOUNG ADULT STEALS CAR DURING TEST DRIVE
A 19-year-old from Lebanon PA is facing felony charges after police say he stole a car during a test drive. According to the News Item, state police report Alex Kreiser took a 2014 Ford Mustang from Troy’s Auto Sales im Dornsife on September 5th and never returned it. According to the complaint, Kreiser and two associates were allowed to test drive several vehicles, but when the dealer turned away, Kreiser got back into the Mustang and drove off. He was arrested the next day and arraigned in Northumberland County Court with bail set at ten thousand dollars.
BODY FOUND IN SHAMOKIN RULED A SUICIDE
Authorities have ruled suicide in the death of a man found early last Tuesday morning in a remote part of Shamokin. According to the News Item, Northumberland County Coroner James Kelley said the body was located after a welfare check around 9:27 a.m., when a woman discovered an adult male who appeared deceased in the woods about a mile south the area between the Fifth Ward and the Raspberry Hill Complex. Police Chief Raymond Siko confirms the death is not suspicious. Kelley declined to release further details.
PROTESTERS GATHER OUTSIDE REP MUESER’S OFFICE IN WILLIAMSPORT
A group of local residents and organizers with Action Together NEPA gathered outside Congressman Dan Meuser’s satellite office in Williamsport on Pine Street Friday, calling for greater accountability on federal and state budget issues. According to North Central PA dot com, protesters urged Meuser to hold an in-person town hall, saying they want answers on recent legislation and budget votes referencing topics like Medicaid, immigration enforcement, and government funding delays. At the time of the event, Meuser’s staff were not in the Williamsport office, but organizers said they plan to continue the weekly demonstrations.
CMVT SOUTH PROJECT ALMOST COMPLETE
Construction of nine bridges on the southern section of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway is nearly complete. According to PennDOT the bridge work is about 85 percent finished and on track to wrap up by the end of the year. Five bridges are close to completion, with the remaining four needing concrete deck work and noise walls. Meanwhile, PennDOT is preparing bids for the next major contract, which will cover paving, interchanges, and highway lighting. That contract is expected to be awarded in November.
