FAILURE TO RETURN U-HAUL, FIND YOURSELF IN JAIL
An Ohio couple is behind bars in Lycoming County after allegedly failing to return a rented U-Haul truck. According to the Sun Gazette, state police say Justin and Mindy Kordack of Columbus face felony charges of receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The 15-foot box truck, reported stolen out of Stoughton, Massachusetts, was recovered Wednesday night at a Williamsport hotel. Justin Kordack also faces an obstruction charge for refusing to identify himself. Both were arraigned and jailed on $50,000 bail each.
LAWSUIT BETWEEN TOWNSHIP AND FORMER EMPLOYEE SETTLED
In Lycoming County, a former township manager has settled a lawsuit for $20,000 over claims that false comments from officials cost him a new job. Matthew Aikey alleged Old Lycoming Township leaders violated his retirement agreement by bad-mouthing him, leading to a rescinded job offer from the state Department of Environmental Protection. The settlement includes lifetime health coverage, but no admission of wrongdoing by the township. Aikey had worked for the township for 20 years before resigning during a period of internal turmoil in 2023.
REPORT FINDS ONLY MINOR VOTING MACHINE ISSUES
Pennsylvania voters saw only minor voting machine issues in recent elections, according to a Votebeat and Spotlight PA analysis. Most problems—like paper jams or scanner errors—were quickly fixed with backup machines or roving technicians. Only 0.014% of voters were delayed or unable to vote due to malfunctions. A 2023 legal settlement now requires counties to report these issues after each election, making Pennsylvania the only state with such a rule. Officials say most glitches were human errors that should’ve been caught in pre-election testing.
NEW BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER OPENS
Geisinger’s new Behavioral Health Center in Danville officially opened its doors yesterday. According to the Sun Gazette, the $49 million, 96-bed facility will treat adults, teens, and children experiencing acute mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Located on Maria Hall Drive, it’s the second center launched through Geisinger’s partnership with Acadia Health. Officials say the center will also serve as a teaching hospital and consolidate inpatient services from two other Geisinger hospitals, expanding care capacity across the region.
FIRE DISPLACING FAMILY DECLARED ARSON
A fire that destroyed a home in Cogan Station and forced a family of four to flee in the middle of the night has been ruled arson. According to NorthCentral Pa, investigators say the blaze broke out on the front porch of a home on Pleasant Valley Road just after midnight on March 26, quickly spreading through the house. Fire debris tested positive for an accelerant. Anyone with information is urged to contact State Police in Montoursville at 570-368-5700 or PSP Tips. Callers may be eligible for a cash reward.
INMATE FACES ADDITIONAL CHARGES
A Lycoming County Prison inmate is facing new charges following a domestic disturbance in Williamsport. According to the Sun Gazette, Police say 28-year-old Shyquan Hicks assaulted the mother of his child and used his 3-year-old son to strike the child’s grandmother during the July 26 incident on Hepburn Street. Hicks allegedly resisted arrest and damaged a wall at the police station. He was already jailed on earlier charges from a December case and is now being held on an additional $25,000 bail.
RESIDENTS SAFE AFTER ELECTRICAL FIRE
A two-alarm fire Tuesday afternoon displaced at least three people in Old Lycoming Township. According to the Sun Gazette, the blaze started around 2 p.m. in a vacant unit under renovation at a four-unit apartment building on Princeton Avenue. Officials say the fire was electrical in nature and caused at least $50,000 in damage. No injuries were reported. Police helped safely evacuate residents, and the American Red Cross is assisting those displaced.
STORMWATER MAP UPGRADE IN WILLIAMSPORT
A major stormwater mapping effort is underway in Williamsport, where Lycoming College and the city’s Water and Sanitary Authority are identifying and inspecting over 360 outfalls—far more than originally thought. An outfall is where stormwater exits the city’s drainage system into a stream or river. Aquatic ecologist Dr. Leslie Rieck says Williamsport offers a unique chance to study how urban and natural systems interact. The project, delayed by COVID and outdated maps, is moving forward using GIS software to track pollution, improve infrastructure, and protect the Susquehanna River.

San Diego Padres reliever Mason Miller was bringing the heat Tuesday night. Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. returned the favor. Gurriel crushed a 103.9 mph fastball from Miller into the left-field seats for a two-run homer in the eighth inning, tying the score at 5-all. It was the hardest-hit pitch for a homer since MLB started pitch tracking in 2008.
