POLICE FIND INFANT BODY BURTIED AT MILTON HOME
A Milton home is at the center of a disturbing investigation after police say an infant believed to have died at birth was buried in the backyard. According to the News Item, a search warrant revealed that a 14-year-old girl gave birth early Sunday, and the baby’s body was later found in a dresser drawer and buried behind a home at Center and Filbert streets. Milton Police, state forensics teams, and the Northumberland County Coroner were on scene Tuesday. No charges have been filed yet, but police say the case could lead to multiple felonies.
CALIFORNIA MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT AGAINST PA GIRL
A California man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Loyalsock Township girl now faces federal charges in Lycoming County. According to the Sun Gazette, authorities say 27-year-old Marvin Isaac Dagoc flew to Pennsylvania in March and to meet up with the minor, and recorded the encounters on video. A grand jury indicted Dagoc for enticement, travel for illicit conduct, and child pornography. He also faces over 60 state-level charges. Dagoc was arrested at Philadelphia International Airport and remains jailed without bail at the Lycoming County Prison.
PA BUDGET COULD BE STALLED
For the fourth year in a row, Pennsylvania’s state budget will be late and could drag on longer. According to SpotlightPA, despite an $11 billion surplus, deep political divisions over how to spend it are stalling negotiations. Democrats want to boost education, health care, and transit funding, while Senate Republicans are pushing to rein in spending growth. With the July 1 deadline missed, schools, child welfare services, and public transit could feel the pinch if talks stretch on. Closed-door negotiations are continuing in Harrisburg.
UV LIGHT TO BE USED AT CENTRAL PA HOSPITALS
Hospitals in north central Pennsylvania are getting a safety upgrade. According to the News Item, Geisinger is rolling out advanced UV disinfection devices at facilities including Geisinger Medical Center in Danville and Jersey Shore Hospital. The devices use ultraviolet light to eliminate dangerous pathogens in patient rooms after manual cleaning, especially where contagious illnesses were present. Hospital administrators say it’s part of Geisinger’s push to reduce hospital-acquired infections and protect patients. Sixteen devices are being deployed across the region.
MAN ARRESTED FOR POSTING EXPLICIT PHOTOS ONLINE
Williamsport police have charged a New York man with posting intimate images of his ex-girlfriend online. According to North Central PA dot com, investigators say 23-year-old Gabriel C. Baldwin uploaded six explicit photos of the woman — including her full name — to the nonprofit website archive.org in 2022. The victim was alerted by an Instagram user and traced the images back to Baldwin, who initially denied involvement. Digital evidence, however, linked the account to Baldwin’s Google activity. He now faces six felony charges, with a preliminary hearing set for July 22.
VIOLENT OFFENDER IN COGAN STATION HELD FOR TRIAL
A Cogan Station man accused of a violent rampage back in March will stand trial. After hearing over an hour of testimony, District Judge William Solomon ruled there’s enough evidence to hold 60-year-old Thomas Scott Aversa on two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of simple assault. Police say Aversa first attacked his elderly neighbor, then allegedly assaulted a delivery woman who stopped to help him on Route 973. Charges of robbery and theft were dropped due to lack of evidence. Aversa is out on $250,000 bail.
LEGISILATION INTRODUCED TO BAN TOXIC FIREFIGHTING FOAM
Pennsylvania lawmakers are targeting toxic firefighting foam. State Senators Gene Yaw and Nick Miller have unveiled bipartisan legislation to restrict the manufacture, sale, and use of PFAS-based firefighting foam starting in 2026. PFAS chemicals, linked to serious health risks, have long been used in emergency response — especially by firefighters, who face high exposure levels. The bill allows grant funding to help fire companies safely dispose of the foam and includes exceptions for high-risk sites like airports and chemical plants.
ROAD CLOSURES IN SELINSGROVE NEXT WEEK
Drivers in Selinsgrove should prepare for a major detour as a section of Market Street will close for a railroad crossing project starting Monday, July 7. According to PennDOT, the closure, between Snyder and Mill streets, will allow crews from Lycoming Supply to install a heavy-duty concrete crossing. A detour using Routes 11-15 and Market Street will remain in effect through Thursday, July 17. The project is a joint effort that includes SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority, North Shore Railroad, and PennDOT.
