WILLIAMSPORT KITCHEN FIRE DISPLACES SEVERAL TENANTS
Police are investigating a fire that erupted at in the kitchen of a home at 420 W. Fourth St in Williamsport Saturday just before 1pm. According to the Sun Gazette, the tenant escaped his burning apartment before firefighters arrived to black smoke pouring from the back of the home. Crews from Old Lycoming Township, South Williamsport, Montoursville and some city firefighters arrived once a second alarm was called. The blaze was extinguished in about 15 minutes. Six other tenants who live in the home were displaced until the electric is restored to the three story building. The tenant whose apartment suffered the fire was treated at UPMC Williamsport for smoke inhalation.
POLICE SERVING WARRANT FIND LARGE AMOUNT OF DRUGS
Detectives from the county’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit while serving a warrant discovered an undisclosed amount of drugs in the suspect’s home. According to the Sun Gazette, court records indicate that 34 year old Tyrone Riley had marijuana and ecstasy in his home at 827 Park Place when officers arrived. He was charged with two felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance following his arrest last year for his involvement in two alleged fentanyl sales. Riley waived his preliminary hearing and is in jail in lieu of 85 thousand dollars bail.
APEX HOMES FIRE STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION
State police are still investigating the cause of the fire at the Apex Homes in Middleburg that brought multiple companies to the property along Route 522 the morning of May 3rd According to the Daily Item, the company was forced to temporarily halt production at the custom modular home manufacturing plant while to clean the building and assess the damage. Fire engulfed the frame shop of the plant and spread about 30 feet into the main production and office building. About 140 people are employed there and Apex Homes president Lynn Kuhns said he hopes to resume production on May 19. Losses come to about 5 million dollars.
LAPTOPS TO LEND IN UNION COUNTY
The Union County Library system is providing laptop computers to adult patrons in Union County. According to media outlets, the Union County Library System is expanding tech access through a grant from the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority. Library members in good standing with a valid ID and a library card and who are over 18 can borrow a laptop for a week from the Public Library for Union County in Lewisburg, Herr Memorial Library in Mifflinburg, and West End Library in Laurelton. They can be renewed twice before a return.
DANVILLE MAN KILLED IN ROUTE 54 ACCIDENT SATURDAY
State police in Stonington report a 78 year old Danville man died after an accident on Route 54 early Saturday morning. According to the Daily Item, Joseph Lamonica was traveling in his Subaru Forester south on Route 54 and left the roadway. Police say he struck a log that was on the side of the road and spun out, coming to rest facing south on the road. Lamonica was pronounced dead at the scene.
THREE FACING CHARGES FOR FIGHTING OVER CHILD’S FIGHT
Two Cogan Station women were arrested and charged recently for several misdemeanors for fighting each other over a problem between their children on April 27th. According to North Central PA dot com, police arrived to the property at the 3600 block of Lycoming Creek Road where 39 year old Ashley Cagle was bleeding from the nose after she and 26 year old Tammy-Lynn Vanbuskirk allegedly had an altercation over an accusation she made about Cagle’s children against her 6 year old daughter. Another woman, 37 year old Amber Kurtz also arrived and fought with Vanbuskirk while police were on the scene. Cagle was transported to the hospital to be treated for her injuries. Cagle and Vanbuskirk are each facing simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. Kurtz was charged with disorderly conduct.
BOY HIT BY CAR IN MIFFLINBURG IN STABLE CONDITION
Mifflinburg Police report that the boy who was struck by a 63 year old driver in Mifflinburg last week and taken to the hospital via Life Flight is stable and recovering well and that no charges will be filed in the case. According to the Daily Item, the woman from Mifflinburg who struck the child, was traveling west on Chestnut Street about 4:15 pm last Wednesday when the 11 year old ran out in front of her Honda SUV. Hospital officials say the boy had no broken bones and was lucky to have survived the accident.
OVER 80 THOUSAND POUND OF TRASH COLLECTED IN APRIL
The month long clean-up effort in April, which is Susquehanna Greenway Cleanup Month, resulted in the collection of over 81 thousand pounds of trash. According to media outlets, over 850 volunteers worked throughout the month at 24 events across the Susquehanna River region, and Sunbury crews alone pulled 13 thousand pounds of trash, tires, and metal from the Susquehanna River. Supplies for the cleanups in Harrisburg, Sunbury, Danville, Bloomsburg, Milton, and Williamsport were provided through the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful program with help from the DEP and PennDOT.

* Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin was ejected in the first quarter of Sunday’s Game 4 win against the Cleveland Cavaliers after being given a flagrant foul 2 for striking Cavs forward De’Andre Hunter in his midsection with a closed fist.
* Hunter shoved Mathurin to the floor in response, which prompted Pacers center Myles Turner to push Hunter. Both Hunter and Turner were issued technical fouls.
