WATER MAIN BREAK CAUSED BOIL WATER ADVISORY
A high pressure 12-inch cast iron water main broke Tuesday morning in Old Lycoming Township around 7:30am and traffic was diverted from the area for several hours. The area of the break was near Princeton and Wheatland avenues and crews from the Municipal Water Authority worked to mend the rupture throughout Tuesday afternoon. Water customers on Princenton Avenue to Wheatland as well as residents along Marvin Circle to Calvin Drive are advised to boil their water until further notice. According to a press release the authority will notify customers when boiling is no longer necessary.
SHAMOKIN MAN GETS STATE PRISON FOR WALMART THEFTS
A man from Shamokin is facing state prison after pleading guilty to theft from a Walmart in Monroe Township. According to North Central PA dot com, 39 year old Donald J. Ponatoski was sentenced to one to 24 months in state prison for charges against him including retail theft by under-ringing in five different incidents in which he scanned a separate barcode taped under his finger for items of lesser value. Police say he stole over 900 dollars in trading cards between February and April of 2024. Court records say Ponatoski repaid the amount of the items to the Snyder County Walmart.
TREE PLANTING IN LEWISBURG FOR AMERICA’S 250TH BIRTHDAY
A special certified Liberty Tree will be planted to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary in Union County Saturday. According to the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership, the tree, which is a direct descendant of the original Liberty Tree under which the Sons of Liberty gathered in Boston, is one of 67 trees being planted across the Commonwealth for the Semiquincentennial. The planting is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Freemasons will take place at the Dale-Engle-Walker Historical Site 1471 Strawbridge Road in Lewisburg at 4:30pm Saturday. JERSEY SHORE COLOR GUARD TEAM BRINGS HOME THE GOLD
The Jersey Shore indoor color guard is the Scholastic Novice Guard Atlantic Coast Champions after a successful week at the 2025 Tournament Indoor Association Atlantic Coast Championships in Wildwood New Jersey. According ot the Music Boosters of Jersey Shore Area the young women on the team entered the weekend as the number 1 seed out of 23 total performing groups and finished with the highest score in the program’s history. The gold medal is also a first ever for a Jersey Shore color guard team. They will perform a Championship Reprise of their show for the public on Thursday, May 15th at 6:00pm in the Jersey Shore High School gym preceded by presentation and hanging of their championship banner.
MAN CHARGED FOR NOT PAYING OWNERS FOR TREES LOGGED
A man from Mifflinburg is facing theft charges after he cut trees for two customers but did not pay them the agreed upon amount. According to North Central PA dot com, state police say 44 year old Franklin W. Roup logged one Union County property in July of 2024 and made two payments to the property owner who later reported Roup to police when he failed to make the third payment. Also in July, Roup agreed to cut down 36 large oaks for 3000 dollars but never responded when the victim attempted to make contact for payment. Roup has been charged with felony theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, and summary driving without a license charges and had a preliminary hearing this week.
WOMAN STABS NEIGHBOR AFTER ARGUMENT
An altercation between neighbors in Williamsport led to one woman being charged with assault. According to North Central PA dot com, police say 60 year old Susan Lynette Baines argued with the victim April 23rd early in the day at their Chester Street apartment complex. Witnesses said they saw her struck him in the right shoulder with a knife before he went to UPMC Williamsport for treatment. When police interviewed Baines at her apartment, they found the alleged weapon in the sink that she said was only used for food. Police arrested Baines and charged her with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, simple assault, tampering with evidence, and harassment. She was jailed in lieu of $50,000 monetary bail.

PPL Electric Utilities are advising their residential and small business customers to seek ways to manage energy costs as they expect a rise in electric generation supply prices by June 1st. According to PPL, they provide tools and programs that are designed to help manage energy costs and keep monthly bills as predictable and reasonable. PPL Electric Utilities is not allowed to own any electric generation and is required to purchase electricity on behalf of customers who do not choose a third-party supplier. KAYAKING, FISHING DAY CAMPS SCHEDULED IN HOWARD
There are kayaking and fishing daytrips available for youth this July through the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association. According to the non-profit, they will host the program called “Helping Engage our River’s Youth with Nature”, which offers groups of 8-13 year-old participants a chance to learn the basics of fishing, kayaking and conservation. Registration is required for the day camps coming up July 1st and 2nd at Bald Eagle State Park’s 1,000-acre Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir near Howard.
