MOTHER OF SPECIAL NEEDS SON JAILED FOR ABUSE
An Old Lycoming Township woman was arrested after a video surfaced of her abusing her special needs son on December 31st of 2024. According to the Sun Gazette, a police affidavit says Yasmin Kalani was shown in multiple videos verbally and physically abusing her child in the home on Frey Avenue. Kalani was charged with two counts of abuse of a care dependent person and was jailed in lieu of 25 thousand dollars bail. Her son is in protective custody with Children and Youth.
FIRE DESTROYS JERSEY SHORE FARMHOUSE
A vacant farmhouse on Fillman Road in Jersey Shore burned down Tuesday morning but no injuries were reported. According to the Sun Gazette, calls came in about 7:40am about the old two-story home that was consumed by the blaze when firefighters arrived on the scene. Smoke was visible from a mile away, but first responders got it under control by about 8:10am. Even with the multi-alarm fire controlled, firefighters continue to tear apart the rubble and douse hot spots throughout the day yesterday. Lycoming and Clinton county fire departments were called in to haul water since ponds in the area were frozen.
PA MOTORCYCLE INSPECTIONS ARE YEAR-ROUND NOW
Motorcycle owners in Pennsylvania can now have their bikes inspected year round, thanks to legislation announced by the Shapiro administration. According to North Central PA dot com, motorcycle inspections were only able to occur between March and October before Act 149 went into effect on January 17th of this year and will give owners more options to keep their vehicles road ready. PennDOT says 355,000 motorcycles are registered in Pennsylvania.
Mayor Derek Slaughter along with the Comprehensive Recreation, Park, Open Space and Green Committee invites the public to a meeting tomorrow to review the recommendations that have been developed during the early “Parks Plan” phases as the city improves and restores our area parks and recreation spaces. The four phase plan will now head to the third phase – to prioritize the project list of recommendations before they “Launch into Action”. The meeting will be held at the Michael Ross Room of the Trade & Transit II at 144 West Third Street in Williamsport. Doors open at 5:30pm and the presentation begins at 6pm. A public input session will also be held.
INMATE AT COUNTY PRISON INJURED IN FALL
A Snyder County inmate being held at Clinton County Prison fell from a bed and suffered life-threatening injuries on February 20th. According to the Daily Item, after the 34 year-old man was injured he was transported to an area hospital for several days and then moved to another hospital where he remains at this time with no word on the actual nature of his injuries. Prison officials say no foul play is suspected. Snyder County closed its jail outside Selinsgrove last April in a move to cut costs and in a three-year agreement with the Clinton County facility that they will house up to 40 inmates.
MAN HITS WOMAN STANDING IN PARKING SPACE
A man is facing assault charges after he hit a woman with his car who was blocking a parking space where he wanted to park on February 20th. According to Bucknell University police, the victim was standing in a parking space at a university parking lot when 22 year old Matthew Wade Ryckman, of Riverside, Conn attempted to park in the same space, telling the woman standing there that she was not a vehicle. Ryckman moved his vehicle forward, hitting the woman in the knee, then backed out and drove away from the scene. He was charged with felony aggravated assault and was incarcerated in liue of 20 thousand dolalrs unsecured bail.
LENTEN INITIATIVE FOR DONATIONS AT ARW
Administrators at American Rescue workers are putting forth a special Lenten donation initiative to build up inventory that could restock their warehouses. According to the Sun Gazette, donations to the non-profit of clothing, shoes, housewares, and furniture have dropped dramatically, likely due to the ongoing effects of inflation. The special holiday initiative asks families to put one item of clothing in a bag each day that can then be donated at the conclusion of Lent. SPORTS JERSEY DAY FRIDAY TO HONOR MEMORY OF WARRIOR RUN STUDENT
This Friday is Hunter’s Jersey Day – a chance for the public to honor the memory of Hunter Beck Reynolds, a Warrior Run student who died in a car accident in 2022. According to administrators of Hunter’s Heart & Hustle Foundation, people are asked to wear their favorite sports jerseys and post photos of themselves on social media with the hashtag “Hunters Jersey Day 25”.
