Customers of PPL Electric Utilities now have more time to apply for help with their energy bills. The deadline for the federal LIHEAP program has been extended to May 8. The program provides grants of up to $2,000 to help cover heating costs or prevent shutoffs, even for those without past-due balances. Additional programs are also available to help customers manage and reduce their energy costs.
WILLIAMSPORT ANNOUNCES CANCELLATION OF 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS
Williamsport Mayor Derek Slaughter says Fourth of July fireworks will not be held in downtown Williamsport this year. The mayor says the decision comes as the holiday falls on a Saturday during the nation’s 250th anniversary, requiring increased safety-staffing that the city cannot meet. Officials say public safety concerns led to the cancellation, and an alternate location is being considered in Lycoming County for a possible celebration for America’s Birthday.

UPCOMING GRACE PERIOD FOR OUTSTANDING WARRANTS
Officials in Sunbury are preparing for a new warrant enforcement initiative targeting individuals with outstanding cases. The district attorney says a grace period will be announced soon, giving people a chance to resolve warrants before arrests begin. Authorities warn those who ignore the notice could face arrest, fines or jail time as the effort expands across Northumberland County.
LICENSE PLATE READER DECISION GOES TO LEADERSHIP IN LEWISBURG
A decision on license plate reader cameras in Lewisburg and East Buffalo Township is now in the hands of elected officials. The discussion will now shift to borough council and township supervisors for further review.
