WORK CONTINUES ON THE WYALUSING RIVER BRIDGE
Work is moving forward to repair the Wyalusing River Bridge in Bradford County after it was damaged by an oversized truck in March. PennDOT says utility lines have been relocated, the bridge has been cleaned, and final design plans are expected this week. Once materials arrive, crews will begin repairs seven days a week. The bridge remains closed, with a detour in place between Route 187 and Route 6. Officials say the goal is to reopen this critical route by July 1.
NEW HOUSING, SHOPPING IN DOWNTOWN SELINSGROVE PLANNED
A new mixed-use development is being proposed for downtown Selinsgrove. Plans call for six townhouses and multiple commercial spaces on a vacant lot along North Market Street. The project has received preliminary approval from the planning commission. Developers say the nearly 20-thousand square-foot building would include shops on the first floor and residential units above with balconies and garages. Local officials say the project could boost tax revenue and bring new life to the downtown area.
HOME RULE MEET AND GREET THURSDAY
Residents in Williamsport will have a chance to learn more about Home Rule at a public meet-and-greet Thursday evening. The event runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the River Valley Regional YMCA, where candidates for the proposed Home Rule Study Commission will answer questions and explain the process. Voters will decide in May whether to create the commission, which would study and draft a potential new form of local government for the city.

State police say a woman is facing charges after allegedly taking a vehicle from a Lycoming County business without permission. Investigators say the incident happened around 2 a.m. on February 19 at a car dealership along Alexander Drive in Muncy Township. Troopers say Shantelle Mitchell took the vehicle, which belongs to a 35-year-old Williamsport woman. Charges are expected to be filed through the office of District Judge Gary Whiteman.
PA INVESTING IN MIFFLINBURG WOOD COMPONENT MANUFACTURER
Governor Josh Shapiro announced a $10.9 million investment to revive a shuttered manufacturing facility in Union County. John Brothers Holdings plans to reopen the Mifflinburg site to produce wood components, creating 78 new jobs and retaining 465 existing positions. The state is contributing $450,000 to support the project. The company is also hiring former workers impacted by a previous closure. Officials say the move will strengthen Pennsylvania’s manufacturing sector and boost the local economy.
WATER SERVICE REPAIRED AT SNYDER COUNTY PRISON
Water service has finally been restored to the former Snyder County Prison in Penn Township after months without running water. Officials say the repair cost just over $1,600 far less than earlier estimates from the state that reached up to $225,000. Local crews uncovered and fixed the damaged pipe in about four hours. County leaders are now seeking reimbursement and calling the situation frustrating, noting the issue lingered for months despite what turned out to be a simple fix.
CONTRACT FOR NEW CROSSWALKS IN WILLIAMSPORT APPROVED
New crosswalks are coming to Williamsport to improve pedestrian safety across the city. Officials approved a $764,000 contract to build 12 crosswalks, including several near Lycoming College. The project is funded through a state red-light enforcement grant and a partnership with the college. According to the Sun gazette, leaders say the upgrades will help slow traffic and make it safer for students and residents, especially near busy Washington Boulevard.
