SERIAL BURGLAR IN CUSTODY
Police say a suspected serial burglar is now behind bars after a months-long investigation in Lycoming County. Lycoming Regional Police Department has charged Gerald W. Fleegle II in connection with a series of break-ins across Jersey Shore and Cummings Township dating back to 2024. Detectives say surveillance footage, physical evidence, and items recovered from his home helped link the cases. Fleegle is facing multiple felony charges and is being held on $25,000 bail.
MAN FOUND ON NEIGHBOR’S PROPERTY HIDING FROM POLICE
A man found hiding under a neighbor’s trampoline in Jersey Shore is now facing charges. Police say 47 year old Justin Brickell, was under the influence of methamphetamine when officers responded to a report on Arch Street early Tuesday morning. After a brief search, he was found hiding nearby and later admitted to using drugs. Brickell was cited for disorderly conduct, and police say no injuries were reported.
MONTOUR COUNTY REST STOP CLOSED UNTIL MAY
The Interstate 80 eastbound rest area in Montour County is now closed for upgrades. Officials say the closure began Tuesday and includes both the parking area and comfort facilities as crews work on a water treatment project. The improvements are aimed at enhancing safety and service for travelers. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate stops. The rest area is expected to reopen sometime in May.
PENNDOT SEEKING YOUNG AMBASSADORS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful are now accepting applications for the Young Ambassadors of Pennsylvania program. The initiative is open to high school students in grades 10 through 12 who are passionate about protecting the environment. Selected students will take part in training, community projects, and leadership development. Applications are open through June 10. Students can apply online at Keep PA Beautiful.org.
MAN CHARGED AFTER ASSAULT OF A TEEN GIRL
A Lock Haven man with a prior drug conviction is facing new charges after an alleged assault involving a teenage girl. Police say 32-year-old Wade Merrill attacked a 13-year-old at the intersection of West Bald Eagle and South Fairview streets, forcibly taking her phone and smashing it. He’s now charged with criminal mischief and harassment. Merrill was previously convicted of drug delivery resulting in death in a 2012 fentanyl case involving a local high school student.
MAN STOLE PAYOUT TICKETS FROM GAMING MACHINE
A Middleburg man is facing charges after police say he took more than $1,300 from a game machine at a gas station in Limestone Township. David Bud Fisher, 53, is accused of manipulating a machine that had been marked out of order after another player hit a jackpot. Investigators say Fisher was able to print remaining payout tickets and cash them in over multiple visits. He now faces theft and deception charges and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 21.
CITY MUST PAY LEGAL FEES OVER CONSENT DECREE
A federal judge has ruled the Center for Independent Living can recover attorneys’ fees from the City of Williamsport tied to enforcement of a consent decree. Matthew W. Brann says both the agreement and the Americans with Disabilities Act require those costs to be covered. The case stems from claims the city failed to comply with the decree, leading to additional legal work and extended negotiations. The city must now respond as both sides work to settle the amount or return to court.
PORTION OF THE RAIL TRAIL WILL CLOSE FOR UPGRADES
Portions of the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail will be closed over the next two months as crews complete a $1.65 million resurfacing project. Officials say work is underway on a six-mile stretch between Mifflinburg and East Buffalo Township. The trail will remain partially open, but users are urged to follow posted closures and safety signs. The project includes new surface material, drainage improvements, and pipe replacements, with completion expected by June 30.
