According to the Sun Gazette, the school board approved a six-thousand-five-hundred dollar land survey and a two-thousand-eight-hundred dollar appraisal to evaluate the property during their latest meeting. School resource officer Doug Hoffman raised concerns about safety and losing control of the area if the land is sold. Board President Todd Engel said the vote only authorizes gathering information, and no decision on a sale has been made.
PETITION SIGNED TO PROTEST NEW REASSESSMENT REQUEST
Nearly 700 people have signed a petition opposing a request from a reassessment firm in Northumberland County that asks commercial property owners to submit income and expense information. The petition, started by Paxinos business owner Ali Oley, argues property taxes should be based on real estate value, not business income. The county is conducting its first reassessment since 1972. Officials say the data is needed to calculate market values, while concerns grow over privacy and potential impacts on taxes and rents.

NEW BERLIN ATTORNEY FACES 3-MONTH SUSPENSION
A state disciplinary board is recommending a three-month suspension for New Berlin attorney Daryl Yount over professional misconduct. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has not yet acted on the recommendation. According to the Daily Item, the board cited Yount’s behavior during a hearing as “rude and dismissive,” along with concerns about his fitness to practice law. The case stems from a complaint by a Union County couple who paid $10,000 for estate planning services and later received a refund after alleging poor work. The board also found Yount lacked experience and performed minimal legal work.
