MAN WHO CRASHED TRUCK WITH A TODDLER AND FLED, ARRESTED
A Williamsport man is facing felony charges after police say he crashed a pickup truck with a three-year-old child inside and fled the scene. Officers say 30-year-old Roland Alexander Zerbe struck two parked vehicles on the 700 block of Fifth Avenue, then ran to a nearby home with the child. Police say the girl was in the front passenger seat without a safety seat and had a scratch on her face and marks consistent with a seatbelt. Zerbe later admitted he fled because his license was suspended for a DUI. He was charged with felony endangering the welfare of a child and other offenses and released on 15-thousand dollars bail.
ELDERLY MAN ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTS NURSE AND STAFF MEMBERS
An 83-year-old Sunbury man is accused of assaulting hospital workers at WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital in Union County. State police say the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. March 6 in Kelly Township. According to investigators, William Wayne Gabel had been acting aggressively throughout the day and was placed under close supervision. Troopers say when a nurse entered the room to assist him with a urinal, Gabel allegedly attacked her after she refused to help him urinate. Police say two other staff members who came into the room were also assaulted. State police at Milton filed the charges.
WOMEN VETERAN LICENSE PLATES AVAILABLE IN PA
As Pennsylvania marks Women’s History Month, state officials are encouraging drivers to support women veterans by purchasing special license plates. The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs says the plates recognize the service of women who served in the military and help fund programs that assist more than 62-thousand women veterans across the state. PennDOT offers several versions of the women veterans plate, including options for cars and motorcycles. Officials say fifteen dollars from each special fund plate goes to the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Trust Fund, which supports organizations that provide housing, essential goods and services for veterans in need.

A large commercial building in Mount Carmel was heavily damaged by fire Sunday night. Crews were called around 8:16 p.m. to the former Columbia Building Supply on the 100 block of South Spruce Street, where firefighters arrived to find heavy flames. During the blaze, part of the structure collapsed, sending cinder blocks, metal and other debris into the street. Firefighters from several communities poured thousands of gallons of water onto the fire while working to protect nearby homes. One neighboring house suffered exterior fire damage and another had heat damage. No injuries were immediately reported.
EMAILS SHOW BOARD MEMBER COMPLAINED ABOUT JERSEY SHORE SHOW CASTING
Internal documents show a Jersey Shore Area School District board member raised concerns that led to a weeks-long pause of the high school musical. Records indicate School Board Vice President Harry Brungard questioned casting a female student in a male lead role in “The Pirates of Penzance,” after a male actor was unable to participate. The high school principal warned that interfering with casting could be discriminatory. The dispute was ultimately resolved in early February after the production was modified by removing an implied wedding scene.

Harrisburg recorded winds up to 48 miles per hour, while State College reported a peak gust of 46.
