FAST FOOD MANAGERS ACCUSED OF THEFT FROM STORE SAFE
Two managers at a McDonald’s on Route 405 in Hughesville are facing felony charges after state police say more than $5,400 was taken from the restaurant’s safe. Investigators allege 34-year-old Robert Eugene Foran made up a robbery story to cover missing deposits, later admitting the money had been “borrowed.” Police say manager Sierra Nichole Smith also took cash and helped juggle deposits to hide the losses. Both were arraigned, released on bail, and face theft charges.

Prosecutors say Springs is charged in the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Dayveon Creel near the Northumberland County Courthouse in August of 2024. Springs is expected to be returned to Pennsylvania and arraigned on homicide charges in the coming days.
HIGH SCHOOL CELL PHONE BAN MOVE FORWARD IN PA LEGISLATURE
A proposal to ban student cellphone use from bell to bell in Pennsylvania public schools is moving forward after the state Senate approved the measure by a 46–1 vote. The bipartisan bill now heads to the House, as Governor Josh Shapiro again urged lawmakers to send him legislation he can sign. Supporters say the plan would reduce classroom distractions and improve learning, while still allowing limited exceptions for medical needs and instructional use. If approved, schools could begin enforcing the ban ahead of the 2027–28 school year.

It was a record-breaking year for a beloved local fundraiser to help neighbors heat their homes. Vince Reeder and Echo Mitchell who coordinated last weekend’s fifth annual Hats for Heat event at the Loyalsock Hotel announced they raised 84,925 dollars. The group thanked the Loyalsock hotel and staff, volunteers, donors, and the entire community for their support, saying the success wouldn’t have been possible without them. Proceeds from the event go directly to Hats for Heat – helping families in need heat their homes across the area.
BOMB THREAT SHUTS DOWN AREA AROUND DANVILLE STATE HOSPITAL
State police responded to a bomb threat that led to road closures around Danville State Hospital. Troopers from Milton responded just after 7 p.m. Tuesday after state police at Shickshinny received a call from an unknown male claiming three bombs had been planted at the psychiatric facility. No explosive devices were found, and investigators later determined the call came from a current patient upset with the hospital, with charges expected as the investigation continues.
SECOND SUSPECT IN CHILD ENDANGERMENT CASE CHARGED
Williamsport police say a second person has been jailed on felony child endangerment charges after officers responding to a domestic disturbance discovered deplorable living conditions inside an apartment on Third Avenue. Investigators say three young children were living in the home and have since been placed in protective custody. Police later identified the suspect as 34-year-old Clyde Francis Burgit, who was arrested following the incident on January 18 and is now being held in Lycoming County Prison on $50,000 bail. His fiancée, Beth Ann Gosnay, also remains jailed on related charges.
GROUP WILL DIGITIZE OUTDATED ORAL HISTORY MATERIALS
A major piece of Central Pennsylvania history could soon be preserved for future generations. The Union County Historical Society, Bucknell University, and the county’s America250PA Committee are asking the public for help as they work to digitize hundreds of fragile oral history recordings from the 1970s. Organizers say the tapes are considered “at risk” due to their age and outdated technology, and after failing to secure a national Recordings at Risk grant, they launched a Sponsor a Story fundraiser to raise about twenty thousand dollars to save and share the interviews online.
