NEW SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AT WASD
Voters in the Williamsport Area School District have elected five new school board members, according to unofficial results from the county. Vice President Jamie Sanders led the field with 4,533 votes (15.94 %), followed by Rick Douglass at 4,468 votes (15.71 %). The other winners are Daniella Weaver with 4,037 votes (14.20 %), Nazirah Purnell with 3,906 votes (13.74 %) and Lauren Montgomery with 3,873 votes (13.62 %). Turnout hovered around 37.6 %.
SMOOTH TRANSITION ANTICIPATED FOR LYCO SHERIFF’S OFFICE
The Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office is set for a smooth transition as Deputy Sheriff Eric Spiegel takes over from longtime Sheriff Mark Lusk, who’s served since 2010. According to the Sun Gazette, Spiegel ran unopposed in yesterday’s election and says the department’s mission of public safety won’t change. For the first time in its 250-year history, the sheriff’s office will have a woman as chief deputy — Deputy 1st Class Keely Mahosky of Hughesville. Spiegel says he plans to strengthen ties with the U.S. Marshals Service, expand community outreach, and continue courthouse and event security programs started under Lusk.
INJURIES FROM CAR CRASH CAUSED BY STOPPING FOR DOG IN ROAD
Choosing to save an animal in the road proved costly for a driver Monday in Watson Township. According to the Sun Gazette, the Citizens Hose Company of Jersey Shore, says a Mercedes-Benz slammed into the back of another vehicle that had stopped for a dog on Route 44 near Furnace Run Road around 10:20 a.m. The Mercedes driver escaped injury, but the car was destroyed. The other driver was taken to Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital. State police are investigating the crash.
SPECIAL ART EXHIBIT AT PENN COLLEGE
The Gallery at Penn College is marking its 20th anniversary in 2026 with a special exhibit celebrating campus creativity. “Made by Hand: An Exhibition of Tomorrow Makers” will feature artwork by students, alumni, faculty, staff, and retirees from Jan. 13 through Feb. 26, 2026. Gallery Director Penny Lutz says the show highlights the college’s innovation and craftsmanship across all media, from sculpture and ceramics to digital art. Entries are being accepted through November 25. Details and entry forms are available at the Gallery’s website.
CITY COUNCIL RESULTS, JUDGE BUTTS TENURE NOT RENEWED
Voters in Williamsport elected three members to city council Tuesday, while Lycoming County voters rejected the retention of Judge Nancy Butts. According to unofficial results from Lycoming County Voter Services, incumbents Liz Miele and Eric Beiter were reelected with 2,786 and 2,409 votes, respectively. Jonah Milliken captured the third seat with 2,654 votes. In the judicial retention race, voters chose not to renew Judge Butts’ term, with 19,115 voting “no” and 9,680 voting “yes.”
PA SUPREME COURT CONTINUES DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY
Pennsylvania voters have re-elected all three state Supreme Court justices up for retention, keeping the court’s 5-2 Democratic majority through the 2028 presidential election. Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht each won new 10-year terms in Tuesday’s vote. Governor Josh Shapiro called the results a “resounding message” supporting the rule of law and protection of constitutional rights. The court has played a key role in recent battles over voting, redistricting, and abortion rights — issues likely to return before the justices in coming election cycles.
TWO YEAR JAIL SENTENCE FOR TOWANDA BURGLARY
A Towanda man will spend up to two years in jail for breaking into a newspaper office and stealing thousands in property. According to North Central PA dot com, 27 year-old Adam Mills was sentenced to 10 months to two years for felony burglary after admitting he and his girlfriend, Harley Shores, looted the Daily Review building on Main Street. Police say the pair stole about $8,400 worth of items, including office furniture, electronics, and checks. Officer Trevor Wills led the investigation and recovered the stolen property from the suspects’ apartment.
VETERAN’S DAY EVENT IN LYCOMING COUNTY
Lycoming County communities are gearing up for several Veterans Day events honoring local service members. The county’s annual Veterans Day Parade steps off Saturday, November 8 at 2 p.m. in Montgomery, featuring military units, floats, and the Nittany Highland Pipe Band. A ceremony will follow Tuesday, November 11 at 11 a.m. at the Montoursville Cemetery Veterans Memorial Wall. State Representative Jamie Flick will also host his third annual veterans breakfast November 13 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the American Legion Post 1 in Williamsport. Officials are inviting residents to attend and show their support.
