FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT TODAY FOR NORTH CENTRAL PA
A flood watch is in effect for much of Central Pennsylvania from 2pm today through 6am tomorrow, with the National Weather Service warning of heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding. Counties named under the watch include Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Union, and parts of Lycoming with thunderstorms potentially dumping over 2 inches of rain per hour, with total rainfall reaching up to 3 inches in some areas. Travel disruptions and flooded roads are possible, residents are urged to monitor forecasts and prepare for flash flood warnings.
NISBET MAN ASKS FOR BAIL REDUCTION FROM CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGE
A Lycoming County judge has denied a request to lower bail for Michael Allen Ritter of Nisbet, who is facing six child pornography charges. According to North Central PA dot com, Judge Ryan Tira rejected the motion Monday, keeping Ritter’s bail at $100,000. Ritter, who was already convicted of scamming the 9/11 Coalition, remains in Lycoming County prison. Investigators say five explicit images of children were found on his phone during a separate fraud probe. Ritter’s next court date is a suppression hearing set for September 19th.
FIREWORKS VANDALISM IN CENTRE HALL
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating two fireworks-related incidents that caused property damage on July 15th. According to North Central PA dot com, around 4:45am that day an M-80 was detonated inside a mailbox on Penns Valley Road, destroying it. Later that night, a mortar-type firework shattered a first-floor window at a home on North Pennsylvania Avenue in Centre Hall. Three residents were the victims in the vandalism but no injuries were reported. Troopers are asking anyone with information to contact the PSP Rockview barracks at 814-355-7545.
PENN COLLEGE STUDENTS CREATE ART FOR LITTLE LEAGUE VENUE
A new 7-foot stainless steel globe built by Penn College welding students is the latest addition to the Little League World Series complex in South Williamsport. The sculpture was designed to represent global unity in youth sports and will greet visitors outside Volunteer Stadium during this year’s tournament going on August 13th through the 24th. More than 70 students collaborated on the complex project using 1,000 feet of metal stock. The effort highlights a long-standing partnership between Little League International and Pennsylvania College of Technology.
CHILD RAPIST WILL STAND TRIAL IN UNION COUNTY COURT
A Mifflinburg man accused of the sexual assault of a 9-year-old girl is set to stand trial next month in Union County Court. According to the Daily Item, 52 year old Melvin Casey Ross, faces six felony charges including rape of a child, sexual assault, and corruption of minors. Police say the assault happened in Ross’s Limestone Township home in August 2024. The child disclosed details during interviews at the Child Advocacy Center in Sunbury. Ross denies the allegations but admitted picking the girl up. His trial is scheduled for August 21 and 22. He remains free on $50,000 unsecured bail.
MONTOURSVILLE WOMAN CHARGED TWICE IN A MONTH FOR DRUG POSSESSION AND USE
A Montoursville woman is facing multiple drug charges after being taken into custody twice in a month. According to the Sun Gazette, state police say 27-year-old Bailey Marie Powell was found with suspected meth and drug paraphernalia at her Walters Road home in March and later admitted to injecting the substance. A month later, Powell was again found under the influence at a local motel, this time with a needle containing suspected fentanyl. She was charged with possession of controlled substances and paraphernalia and released on $5,000 bail.

National Night Out returns to Lycoming County Tuesday, bringing together first responders, community leaders, and residents in a show of unity and safety. Events will take place across the region, including Williamsport’s Brandon Park from 5 to 8 p.m., with food trucks, games, and face painting. Jersey Shore, Cogan Station, Montoursville, and Muncy will also host gatherings from 6 to 8 p.m. The annual event aims to strengthen ties between neighborhoods and law enforcement while promoting community spirit.

A Williamsport school teacher is asking for support as she attempts a second national win in a “Stock the School” contest. According to North Central PA dot com, Hepburn-Lycoming Primary kindergarten teacher Michelle Boyles was one of ten winners last year, earning supplies and reusable water bottles for her students.
