VICTIM FOUND NEAR MONTOUR COUNTY BOAT LAUNCH IDENTIFIED
The Montour County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman recovered from the Susquehanna River near Danville this week. According to the Daily Item, the body of 42-year-old Katrina Marie Seguine of Scranton was discovered around 10:30am Sunday near the boat launch on River Drive in Mahoning Township. An investigation is underway by the Montour County Coroner’s Office and Mahoning Township Police Department who are seeking information about Seguine’s activities and whereabouts prior to her death. MAN FROM HOWARD SENTENCED FOR POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
A 41-year-old man from Howard, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for producing child pornography and online enticement of a minor. According to the Lock Haven Express, the FBI reports that they discovered that Louis Bradley Wetzel had a large collection of child sexual exploitation material during a December 2023 search of his home. This case was prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative, aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. Wetzel was also ordered to pay $50,000 in restitution to the victims.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS STARTS TOMORROW IN STATE COLLEGE
Special Olympics Pennsylvania is gearing up for its 55th Annual Summer Games, at Penn State tomorrow through Saturday.This premier statewide competition will feature over 2,000 athletes and 800 coaches competing in aquatics, basketball, equestrian, gymnastics, tennis, and track and field including 14 athletes and 12 coaches and volunteers from Lycoming County.Volunteers are still needed to assist in various roles; to register, visit specialolympicspa.org.The games also serve as preparation for athletes heading to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minneapolis.
DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR CLINTON COUNTY FAIR QUEEN
The Clinton County Fair Queen Program is now accepting applications for 2025. Young women ages 16 to 20 are invited to apply, regardless of farming background. According to the Lock Haven Express, the program offers opportunities to develop public speaking, leadership, and community engagement skills. ELMIRA TEEN ARRESTED FOR TERRORIZING FAMILY WITH GANG THREATS
An 18-year-old from Elmira, New York, has been charged with making terroristic threats after allegedly sending a threatening Facebook message to family members in Bradford County claiming affiliation with the Crips gang and threatening to harm the victim’s family. According to North Central PA dot com, police say Dakota J. Lowery, faces misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats and harassment and has a preliminary hearing July 1. While there are no reported instances of Crips gang activity in Elmira NY or Athens, PA, local police report an uptick in gang-related violence in recent years.
TOWANDA MAN ARRESTED FOR HARRASSING NEIGHBORS
A Towanda man has been sentenced to state prison after a pattern of harassment against his neighbors. According to North Central PA dot com, 31 year old Dustin Maynard, was convicted of multiple counts of disorderly conduct, harassment, and resisting arrest after incidents in June 2024. Police say Maynard shined bright lights into neighbors’ homes and made sexually suggestive comments. District Attorney Richard Wilson noted that Maynard showed no remorse and even claimed his actions were protected under free speech. With a prior burglary conviction, Maynard was sentenced to a minimum of 20 months and up to over eight years in state prison.
SOME MAIL IN BALLOTS DISQUALIFIED IN UNION COUNTY
Nearly 100 mail-in ballots from the May 20 primary election were disqualified due to postage issues in Union County. According to the Daily Item, Election officials reported that 96 ballots were received after the 8 p.m. deadline, with many featuring double postmarks from Harrisburg. Union County Election officials are in contact with the Pennsylvania Department of State to investigate the matter. A total of 3,940 voters participated in the election, with 1,286 casting mail-in ballots, resulting in a 17.9% voter turnout. Certification of the election results is expected June 9.
NEW MINI-MOBILE FOOD PANTRY THIS SUMMER
Central Susquehanna Opportunities is set to fund a new mini-mobile food pantry thanks to a $40,000 donation from Hummel Station LLC. According to the News-Item, the initiative expands CSO’s reach to underserved communities in Columbia, Montour, and Northumberland counties. The program launches this summer and will provide not only food but also hygiene products, housing resources, financial literacy support, and case management services directly to individuals and families in need. * The New York Knicks fired coach Tom Thibodeau yesterday, three days after the Knicks were ousted from the Eastern Conference finals in six games by the Indiana Pacers, their longtime rivals.
* Thibodeau, had surpassed Pat Riley earlier this season to rank fourth on the franchise list in victories, and led the Knicks to back-to-back 50-win seasons for the first time since 1995. He’d signed a three-year extension with the team just last summer.
