UNCONCIOUS MAN PULLED FROM WATER IN SUNBURY WETLANDS
Sunbury police responded to a pond inside the wetlands area where an unconscious male was pulled from the water Saturday morning. According to the Daily Item, police and emergency responders were at the wetlands area between Line and Race streets and North 6th and North 8th street and removed the mans body, taking him immediately to the hospital. Police Chief Travis Bremigen did not released the name of the male who he said was in his 20s, and said he may have suffered a medical emergency and fell through the ice. No foul play is suspected and more details will be released when available.
MAN WHO LED CHASE, NEARLY MISSED PEDESTRIAN, ARRESTED
A man from Old Lycoming Township was taken into custody Wednesday after police observed him driving erratically at a high rate of speed along the 2500 block of Bottle Run Road around 3:45pm and began a pursuit. According to the Sun Gazette, Eric Allen Horak was the alleged driver of a white Jeep Cherokee who reportedly almost struck pedestrians and was seen almost striking multiple vehicles as he drove onto Colvin Road and through to Dunkleberger Road and then onto Mitchell Hill Road where police lost sight of him. Police apprehended Horak at his home where they found the Jeep in question with consistent prior damage police had observed during the pursuit. Following his arraignment, Horak was taken to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of 25 thousand dollars bail.
STATE AGENCY LOOKING FOR SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM HELP
Local providers are being sought by the state Department of Education for their Summer Food Service Program. According to North Central PA dot com, meals were served to low income children at about 1,650 locations by more than 200 organizations in the summer of 2024 and this year more organizations are needed in rural areas of the Commonwealth. MAN INJURED IN ONE CAR ACCIDENT
A man from Washingtonville was injured in an accident Wednesday on Route 254. According to State police, Corey Piestrak was allegedly driving an SUV east and veered off the road, hit an embankment rolled and came to rest on the berm in Turbot Township, with debris scattered from his car destroyed by another vehicle whose driver was uninjured. Troopers say Piestrak was not wearing a seatbelt and that he was transported to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Hospital officials say Piestrak is in critical condition
TWO TEENS WHO FLED CAUGHT IN CONNECTICUT
The two teens who were on the run after a pursuit in which two other suspects were taken into custody in Pennsylvania are now also in custody. According to PennLive, 18-year-old Kadence Gooch and an unidentified 17-year-old, and were taken into custody Wednesday near St Clair. They are accused of stealing a pickup truck in Tennessee, flashing guns at motorists, and leading police on a chase exceeding 100 mph. Police say 17-year-olds Christian Guerrero, Jr., and Jeremiah Begley were arrested in Hartford Connecticut last Thursday. They face homicide charges as adults after allegedly firing at a state trooper during a pursuit on I-81 in Dauphin and Schuylkill counties. Guerrero and Begley are incarcerated and awaiting extradition back to Pennsylvania.
DUI PATROLS TO INCREASE FOR MARDIS GRAS, ST PATRICK’S DAY
The Lycoming County DUI Task Force has announced they will increase their DUI enforcement efforts during the Mardi Gras and Saint Patrick’s Day holidays that historically include alcohol consumption. According to Sgt. Robert Cochran, task force coordinator the goal of the announcement is so that the public remembers to celebrate responsibly and to make smart choices before getting behind the wheel, and to reach out to friends or use a ride share service to get home if you have been drinking.
CORNHOLE TOURNEY BENEFITTED MIDD-WEST FOOTBALL
Almost a hundred contestants were part of an all-day cornhole tournament at the Midd-West Middle School gymnasium Saturday. According to the Daily Item, the tournament was also a fundraiser for the Midd-West Mustang football team and was organized by Stars and Stripes Cornhole of Central Pennsylvania, a husband and wife team who run tournaments like this throughout the area. A split of the revenue for the tournament went to the school for helmets, shoulder pads, uniforms, and training equipment. The was the third cornhole competition held by Midd-West. 275 items were also raffled off as part of the fundraiser.
