MAN ARRESTED AFTER FLEEING ALLEGED DUI ACCIDENT
A Montgomery man was jailed after fleeing an alleged DUI car accident at routes 15 and 54 Sunday around 11am. According to the Sun Gazette, state troopers say 38 year old Jarell A. Blair ran his Toyota Highlander into a ditch and fled on foot, and they later apprehended him. Police say they took him into custody as he was attempting to walk along Elimsport Road, near West Blind Road with multiple indicators showing that he was impaired. Police transported Blair to UPMC Williamsport for severe intoxication, where he continued to resist and fight with hospital staff. Blair fought officers as he was taken to the Montoursville barracks where he was charged with resisting arrest, four counts of disorderly conduct, DUI and more. He was jailed in Lycoming County Prison in lieu of 20 thousand dollars bail.
SECOND WARRANT ISSUED FOR COUDERSPORT MAN
A man from Coudersport failed to appear for his preliminary hearing last week and a bench warrant was issued for him. According to the Sun Gazette, on Christmas Day of 2024, police say 46 year old John Coyle was involved in a traffic stop on Route 220 where police suspected Coyle was impaired and found a false license plate on the car. After obtaining a search warrant, marijuana drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine were found in the car. Coyle was on probation from Delaware County at that time, but now faces new charges from Lycoming Regional police who issued the bench warrant for him.
SURVEYING ON I-80 TODAY
Traffic may be affected today on both sides of I-80 as crews prepare for upcoming roadwork. According to PennDOT, a contractor will be surveying between mile markers 217 and 219 from 8am until 2pm today as part of a multi-year construction project between Danville in Montour County and Limestoneville in Northumberland County. JEFF DUNHAM BOOKED FOR BLOOMSBURG FAIR
A world famous ventriloquist will be performing at the Bloomsburg fair this year on September 21st. According to an announcement from the Bloomsburg Fair committee, Jeff Dunham will perform at the Weis Markets Grandstand. Actor, comedian and ventriloquist, Dunham holds the Guinness World Record for “most tickets sold for a stand-up comedy tour” and has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. TWO TEENS MISSING AFTER HIGH SPEED CHASE
Two suspects were arrested in St Clair, Pennsylvania, after a multi-county police chase Sunday, but two others in the car, one of whom may have opened fire on officers pursuing them, escaped law enforcement. According to the Daily Item, PA state police are searching for two white teen males, one known as 17 year old Jeremiah Begley and another suspect who was not identified for pointing a gun at motorists on Interstate 81 near mile marker 57 and for fleeing. Police say two men ran from the car and were apprehended, two other suspects drove away, abandoning the car at the St Clair Walmart and were seen inside the store stealing clothes. SENTENCING FOR TWO WHO PROVIDED LETHAL DRUG DOSE
Two people accused of being involved in the overdose death of Moses Fahnestock at a Lewisburg motel in 2022 pleaded guilty to their charges and will have a sentencing hearing Thursday at the US Courthouse and Federal Building, in Williamsport. According to the Sun Gazette, 37 year old Heather Carper of Northumberland and 37 year old Steven Pierro of Sunbury will be in court facing maximum life sentences for their guilty pleas to felony distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death. Police say another suspect in the case, 39 year old Darryl Elliott of Sunbury, also pleaded guilty last month to one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance but his sentencing has not yet been scheduled.
VOLUNTEERS AND NON-PROFITS NEEDED FOR DAY OF ACTION
Volunteers and nonprofit project sites are being sought in Sunbury for the Susquehanna Valley United Way Annual Day of Action April 25th. According to North Central PA dot com, the deadline to register for non-profits to be a project site is February 28th. The deadline for volunteers to register is March 7th. Nonprofits can submit projects, including gardening and weeding, spring cleaning and landscaping, painting and small construction projects and even data entry or organizational tasks. THON BREAKS THE RECORD AGAIN
The 46 hour dance marathon at Penn State University, called THON, broke last year’s record fundraising for the fight against pediatric cancer at last weekend’s event. According to the Centre Daily Times, 700 dancers raised $17,737,040.93. THON was coordinated by Penn State’s IFC and Panhellenic Council. Every year, hundreds of Penn State students dance, play games and more to raise money to support Four Diamonds, which funds pediatric cancer care and research at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.
