WOMAN CHARGED FOR SELLING IMAGES OF CHILDREN ONLINE

Williamsport Bureau of Police arrested a Williamsport woman after she allegedly sexually abused three young children, and sold the images online. According to Northcentralpa.com, Jennifer Louise Whelan is facing multiple felony charges of trafficking and abuse of children as young as 6. Police reported they were contacted by West Virginia authorities, with a suspect in custody after photos and videos were collected between December 2021 through October 2022. Whelan is being held at Clinton County Correctional Facility with no bail with a formal arraignment coming up November 28 in Lycoming County.

MISSING AUTISTIC BOY FOUND IN LOCK HAVEN

The 17-year-old boy who went missing Thursday near the Lock Haven YMCA was located after a massive search by community members and law enforcement. According to Northcentralpa.com, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department reported the autistic boy missing at 7 pm on Thursday and said he had no shirt or shoes – only a blanket.  Police said after many were out looking in neighborhoods and searching areas of the river, he was found late Friday night .

The plan awaits a final signature by a judge, but the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg has submitted plans to pay an over 18 million dollar settlement to survivors of clergy child sex abuse though a Survivor Compensation Trust into which settling insurers will also contribute.  According to WHTM, the Dioceses, which currently consist of 89 parishes across 15 counties, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February 2020 after  there were 54 proofs of claim from clergy abuse survivors.

LOCAL COMPANY RURAL HEALTH PROGRAM OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to the East Lycoming Ambulance Association of Hughesville, for being named as the Rural Health Program of the Year for 2022. According to social media, Lisa Davis, director of the state Office for Rural Health and Outreach Associate Professor of Health Policy and Administration at Penn State recognized the Associations’ creativity, innovation and their 20-year cooperative effort between four volunteer fire departments —Hughesville, Muncy Area, Picture Rocks and Muncy Township.

MAN ARRESTED FOR HAVING GUNS WHILE ON PROBATION

A man under probation was taken into custody in early November after a domestic disturbance brought law enforcement to his Turbotville home and they found weapons.  According to North Central PA dot com, State Police at Milton requested to search the  home of 43 year old Thomas Lee Smith where there was a sawed-off shotgun and hunting rifle.  Smith had also been in possession of a handgun without a concealed carry permit.  He was committed to Northumberland County jail in lieu of 40 thousand dollars bail, with a preliminary hearing December 7.

WOMAN CHARGED WITH LYING ON FIREARM APPLICATION

Another person has been charged for lying on an application for a firearm at Berwick Sporting goods store.  According to North Central PA dot com, 31 year old Kelsey Horkey falsely filled out the form that was checked for previous felony convictions, crimes that could have resulted in up to a year in jail, domestic violence charges, or a mental health commitment.  According to court records, Horkey has not been arrested previously in Pennsylvania.  She has a preliminary hearing December 12 in District Court.

SUNBURY FIRE DEPARTMENTS HEADING TOWARD CONSOLDATION

The City of Sunbury and all six of its fire departments are working toward the end goal of consolidation, combating their lack of volunteers. As reported by the Daily Item, City Council went to the state Department of Community and Economic Development for a consolidation feasibility report, which supported the needs of the city. Consolidation means the six volunteer fire departments will have a central location and combined resources. Mayor Josh Brosious reported the city hopes to see it complete by the end of 2023.

PENNDOT AMONG SOME STATE OFFICES THAT ARE CLOSED

Most state offices will be closed this Friday after the Thanksgiving holiday.  According to a press release by PennDOT, they announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will also be closed However, customers can still get all forms and driver training manuals, as well as to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fee; driver license and photo ID duplicates online  24 /7 through their Vehicle Services website,   dmv.pa.gov.
