BODY DISCOVERED IN LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP

A man’s body was discovered in a vehicle, in the 2900 block of Lycoming Creek Rd, Loyalsock Township around 7:15 p.m. yesterday. According to northcentralpa.com, numerous state troopers and fire apparatus were on the scene, just north of Hays Lane. The death is under investigation and Lycoming County’s Chief Deputy Coroner Jerold Ross and Jeff Hutchins, the director of the county’s Department of Public Safety, were among those on the scene.  Investigators report no immediate danger to the public.

MORE DETAILS ON POLICE INVOLVED SHOOTING FRIDAY

A former Lycoming County Assistant District Attorney was shot and killed by Milton State Police following a standoff in Northumberland County on Friday. William Kradlak Jr., 70, allegedly exited his residence at 7720 Route 44 in Delaware Township, fired on the troopers.“Troopers returned fire, fatally wounding Kradlak,” Corporal Jonathan Wooster said. Kradlak, a former Assistant District Attorney in 1986, suffered a gunshot wound when he accidentally shot himself, with his own pistol, in the chest  while working on the third floor of the Lycoming County Courthouse on June 11, according to Sun-Gazette records. Kradlak was later removed from his position before he returned to work.

CITY’S ECONOMIC STRATEGY

City officials are considering a comprehensive economic development strategy involving a Lancaster-based firm with proven data-driven analysis, according to SUN Gazette. Council’s economic revitalization committee met with Naomi Young, Lancaster County Economic Development Company, on the proposed city economic strategy.  Young notes, by first taking an inventory of the land available, city officials and those on the committee can see where in the opportunity exists for reuse of these assets.

MARCELLUS SHALE IMPACT FEE

The Marcellus Shale Impact Fee will deliver more than $27.8 million to county and local governments this year, according to Sen Gene Yaw. The Impact Fee not only funds critical projects here locally, but also a wide variety of important environmental projects in communities throughout the state.  More than $146 million was distributed statewide in the most recent round of funding based on natural gas production in 2020. The impact fee has generated more than $2 billion in tax revenue to support county and local governments. Sen Yaw notes the natural gas industry has been a great partner in creating new jobs and opportunities in our communities, and this week’s announcement is another reminder of the necessity of this industry in Pennsylvania.

BAIL REVOKED

A local attorney under investigation for allegedly abusing his eight children for several years has had his bail revoked due to alleged violations of its conditions. Matthew Zeigler, of Cogan Station, allegedly tailed his alleged minor victims in defiance of court instruction that he shall have no contact with them. According to the Daily Item, John B. Leete ordered Zeigler be taken into custody and his former bail of $100,000 be revoked. Zeigler currently faces eight counts of endangering the welfare of children, three counts of intimidation of witnesses, three counts of obstructing the administration of law and two counts of indecent assault. Zeigler will be held in the Lycoming County Prison.

PHARE FUNDING

A funding boost through the Pennsylvania Housing and Finance Agency will allow area agencies to extend help for housing assistance. Rachelle Abbott, chief operations and planning officer, STEP, Inc., said her agency is grateful for its funding allocation amounting to $515,000.Other Lycoming County agencies receiving PHARE funding include Transitional Living Centers Master Leasing Program, • YMCA North Central PA Liberty House, and  Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity Memorial Homes.Another $80,000 is being allocated to the Sullivan County Rental Assistance program to help eligible households.

JUNETEENTH IN BRANDON PARK

The Lycoming Tri-County NAACP, in collaboration with several other local groups, will be hosting a Juneteenth event Saturday, June 19 in Brandon Park. The event, aptly themed “Celebrate Who We Are,” starts at 9 a.m. in the Freedom Road Cemetery. According to northcentralpa.com, festivities will take place starting at 10:30. Mayor Derek Slaughter will speak at 11, and the keynote speaker will take the stage at 11:30. The keynote speaker is Adrian Miller, author who also served as a White House adviser under the Clinton administration. The “one and done” Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine will be offered.

BRAVERY RECONIZED

Two Mahoning Township police officers risked “personal harm, injury or death” to save two people from a Danville apartment house fire at 1064 Mill St. at 8:59 p.m the night of May 28.On Monday evening, the township supervisors presented Officers George Geise and Garon Fenstermaker with Meritorious Awards for their heroic actions. Supervisor Chairman Bill Lynn presented each officer with a framed certificate describing their actions during the rescue and township Police Chief Fred Dyroff pinned the award’s ribbons above each uniformed officer’s left shirt pocket.

PRELIMINARY HEARING ON HOMICIDE CHARGES TODAY

A Mount Carmel man charged with homicide in the death of his ex-girlfriend last month appears in front of a district judge on the charges today at 10 a.m. Stephen Francis Kruskie, 26, of West Third Street, will appear for a preliminary hearing in front of Shamokin District Judge John Gembic. Kruskie was charged by Coal Township police with homicide and homicide by vehicle in the death of 21-year-old Cheyenne Swartz stemming from a May 21 incident. Kruskie, in jail since May 27 on a probation violation, was denied bail.

THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE

Woodward Township police report the Friday arrest of Lyric Matthew Wynn, 20, the same young city man recently charged by Lock Haven police with attempting a break-in at City Hall. Township police charged Wynn with theft of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. They allege Wynn stole a 2003 Chevrolet Tracker while it was at Woodward Automotive, for repairs on May 17-18, On May 26, township police said, they recovered the vehicle on Kryder Hollow Road in Pine Creek Township. Lock Haven police had announced last week the arrest of Wynn after he was caught allegedly attempting to break into City Hall on E. Church Street on June 4.

MISSING JUVENILES FROM MILTON AND SUNBURY

Police are looking for a missing 13-year-old girl from Milton who has not been seen since June 7, and her brother Manny, of Sunbury, who hasn’t been seen for at least two weeks, according to northcentralpa.com. Meya McDowell had been in a foster home in Milton. Meya’s brother Manny is also missing from a separate foster home in Sunbury. Meya is described as a young black female with brown hair, brown eyes, 5’4” and weighs 180 pounds. Anyone with information on Meya is asked to call Milton Police Department. Although no description for Manny has not been released anyone with information may contact Sunbury Police Department.
